MRC Home Inventory

Do I need a home inventory?

Absolutely!   Insurance companies don’t simply write a blank check when you submit a claim. You are required to provide an itemized list of your losses. The more detail you can provide, the better your chances of a fair settlement.

When you think about it . . .

Would you be able to remember all the possessions you’ve accumulated over the years if they were destroyed by a fire or natural disaster? How about after a theft?

Having an up-to-date home inventory will help you get your insurance claim settled faster, exact description of stolen items for a police report, verify losses for your income tax return and help you purchase the correct amount of insurance.

Big-ticket items — televisions, stereos, furniture and paintings — aren't the problem, experts add. It's the little things.

Consider: How many compact discs do you own? Videotapes and DVDs? What make and model is your television? How about your microwave oven or stove?

"Most people can't remember what they had for lunch, much less what's stored in the attic," said Jean Salvatore, spokeswoman for the Insurance Information Institute in New York.

Last, but not least, It can help you determine whether you need additional insurance coverage for valuables such as jewelry, antiques or collectibles.

MRC Home Inventory will provide you with the documentation you need to streamline the replacement and recovery process.
