I started collecting Pinball in early 1996. Like my other Pinball buddies, I too have a real fascination with the Silver Ball. The attraction for me started in the late 70’s. I was in college during this time; Video Games were going strong. Although I still enjoy the classics, Video Games quickly become boring to me. Pinball offered a challenge. No two games were ever the same.
As long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed of owning my own Pinball Machine. Scared Stiff was developed shortly after I got the bug. I played this Game at a Movie Theatre in Charleston, and I was immediately hooked. When I priced a new Scared Stiff, I realized that owning that Game would have to wait just a bit. My first Pinball Machine was a pristine William’s JunkYard. Indiana Jones soon followed, and after a five year frenzy of “buying”, “selling”, and “trading”, I finally added a Scared Stiff to my collection in 2001.
My collection follows no theme. I do enjoy the newer genre of Pinball the most. Some of my all-time favorites include those with deep Rule Sheets and lots of Toys. Medieval Madness and Twilight Zone are among my favorites. Maybe someday I’ll find a nice Twilight Zone; preferably one without Cup Holders attached to the sides (inside joke with Jim W.). Since the WVPPC was formed, I’ve gained an appreciation for Games from different eras. I’ve added some of these Games to my collections because I enjoy them.
My Gameroom is my temporary escape from life’s challenges, and is a way I can cope with stress. I enjoy tinkering and playing, but I have the most fun when I able to share my collection with others. I have two children, one is a senior in High School and the other is a sixth grader in Middle School. My kids both have friends. Friends that LOVE to come to MY house. This is a great opportunity to introduce the younger generations to Pinball. I am always amazed at kids that don’t know Pinball. It does my heart good to see the smiles on their faces and to hear the words, “This is way better than Playstation”. These kids represent the future of our Hobby.
