ACTRESS APOCALYPSE
Dir. by Richard R. Anasky
As if it isn’t hard enough to
obtain a reliable cast and crew for a film Richard R. Anasky has made it a
little harder. Actress Apocalypse is a little tale about two brothers Vance
Lincoln (Greg G. Freeman) and David B. Lincoln the third (Garo
Nigoghossian)trying their hand at filmmaking. When David gets discouraged at
all the actress no shows he decides to stop production. This doesn’t set
well with Vance so he takes the helm. Only problem is Vance doesn’t know
jack about directing, merely it’s a ploy to audition girls in hopes of
humiliation and torture for all their brethrens inconsistency. After
numerous auditions and burnt bridges they finally met up with Layla Black
(Dahlia Legault). This audition seems to be going well and things are
looking up, yet problems occur and the set props get used improperly and she
ends up being choked to death. Now the fun ensues.
In a surrealistic documentary style, Actress Apocalypse sets out to
enlighten you in the horrors of filmmaking as well as the inconsistency of
actors. I’ve been on a few film sets in my day and
watching AA brought back a lot of terrible memories
and cancelled productions. Word has it Actress Apocalypse is based on past
events Anasky had to endure during I Am Vengeance. Anasky’s style is face
first, balls on the table. I felt as if I had stepped on the “Magic Bus” and
took a little ride.. The constant ramblings from actors throughout coupled
with acidic imagery makes Actress Apocalypse one of the coolest films ever
released. Actress Apocalypse is by far one of the best films out there in
the indie world. Not only is the cinematography miraculous and just outright
beautiful but it seems he was lucky enough to pull a few top notch acting
performances at the hands of Greg G. Freeman and Dahlia Legault. Everyone
else did a good job from The Golden boy down but the two aforementioned
really hand it to you.
All in all Actress Apocalypse is a damn fine film and one of my favorite
films to watch; I’ve seen it numerous times and will continue to watch it.
Richard Anasky has rapidly become one of my favorite filmmakers. He seems to
bring a little Asian flair to the table with the imagery and that’s never a
bad thing. Bottom line is watching this movie will remind you of David Lynch
and Timothy Leary. Need I say more?!?!
To throw you another bone Anasky and Freeman are nearing pre-production on
KILLING SPREE A.D (remake/sequel to Tim Ritter's 80's cult classic, KILLING
SPREE), more on that later. Just grow some hair on your balls and get ready.
It’s going to be hairy.
