Benny
Directed by Jason Leonard Noto

I recently received a screener
from a guy called, BENNY. BENNY is the short experimental film from the
mind of Jason Leonard Noto. Although is only runs at thirteen minutes long,
it’s some of the creepiest thirteen minutes you’ll ever endure.
A story is told depicting the
life of a man with past life issues that should have been dealt with
properly. We set and watch the shell of a man, trying to vicariously live
his life through the mistakes of the past.
One thing that does confuse me is
the fact that the prostitute is supposed to be Russian, yet speaks Spanish.
I don’t understand that part, other than that, I felt like BENNY was fast
paced yet well executed. A story told through the surroundings and perfect
thematic overtones, isn’t the easiest do, especially in such a short time. I
felt like Noto showed us an interesting environmental pitfall that is more
real and into our faces then we believe. A quote taken from the flick is
“Somewhere between a boy and a monster lies a man”. A quote I believe was
executed extremely well in BENNY. Somewhere in life we have to choose our
own paths. WE decide what we want to do. Should we use horrific pasts as a
scapegoat? These are things questioned. How does BENNY feel about this you
ask? I suggest ya watch this…. Hopefully BENNY will make the film circuits
soon. Check it out what can you miss? It’s only 13 minutes. And well
worth it..
