Every so often a film lands into my lap and
completely catches my by surprise. THE GATEWAY MEAT is such a film. Not only
was THE GATEWAY MEAT an eye opening, excellent flick but it’s a disturbing
and sadistic film that exceeds far from the normalcy of society’s wants and
needs in the horror genre. The surrealism of this film tells the story of
Markus (DeCaro), your average Joe just trying to work within the corrupt
system known as life. Trying and trying to follow along with all the
expectations that are set forth upon us. After his fathers’ death Markus
just doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do, dredge on or make up the rules
as he sees fit. You soon see that Markus and his family, with the help of a
couple of friends, are a group of Satanists, living in a quaint little town
where his father was working with some spells trying to open a gate to Hell.
So rather then puppetize himself he goes outside the box and takes on the
family tradition, along with his 4 year old daughter watching his every
move with minimal participation.
Props must be given to DeCaro for taking on the
ever so daunting duel role task of directing and acting. It hasn’t been done
by a lot of people very well up to this point in history, but as the film
progresses we get to know the character so well you feel as if you’re
standing in the corner watching everything take place. The surrealism is so
amazingly vivid, it’s scary! DeCaro knows what he wants and stops at
nothing to obtain the objective and it truly shows herein. THE GATEWAY MEAT
completely surpassed any expectations that I had going into the viewing. I
must admit up until viewing THE GATEWAY MEAT over the past several months I
was beginning to loose all hope in my field and thought of after almost 10
years, hanging up my saddle and just being normal for once. But thanks to
DeCaro I must say it’s much more fun being abnormal and watching a balls out
superb flick. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about this
movie. It was nice for once to sit and watch a damn fine film full as shit
with some of the best special effects I’ve ever laid my eyes on. DeCaro can
hang with the best of them and THE GATEWAY MEAT proves it. Any true blue
gore hound is going to get happy in the pants and fall in love with this
story. All in all THE GATEWAY MEAT is an excellent film to catch the
attention of ANYONE who digs horror movies. I know I’ll definitely be
waiting very impatiently to see the next project from DeCaro. And just to
re-iterate I stand by my comment that DeCaro’s effects can hang with
anyone’s, even Kurtzman….They’re just that brilliant!!!! It’s not often you
get a film as full of effects such as this AND has a very well told tale due
to some excellent directing. Kudos DeCaro…
