New Age or Smooth Jazz

If I had to pick only one genre it would probably be Smooth Jazz or New Age. So let's start with some of my favorites New Age songs.

Adiemus is the brainchild of Karl Jenkins. According to wikipedia Adiemus, his work features harmonized vocal melodies against an orchestra background"

Let's start with "Palace of the "Crystal Bridge"

John O'Connor, the British guitarist, used the name Eko to record 5 New Age CD's between 1989 and 1998. "Horse Latitudes" is one of my favorite tracks from those CD's.

Third Force is a Smooth Jazz trio composed of William Aura, Craig Dobbin, and Alain Eskinas, They produced five DC's between 1994 and 2002 on the Higher Octave label. Although they have lots of great songs and it was tough to pick just one, "The Gift" won out.

Craig Chaquico started out playing guitar with Jefferson Starship when he was still a teen. He played lead guitarist on 9 of Jefferson Starship's albums and 5 of Starship's albums. In 1993 he released his first solo album and in 1994 his second album was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Age Album. In fact, the song I have here is the title track from that album.

Deep Forest is a French Duo consisting of Michel Sanchez and Eric Mouquet. They released 7 albums between 1992 and 2013. Their music is based heavily on native rhythms from all over the world. "Sweet Lullaby" is the track that made it to the top of the charts from their self-titled, Grammy nominated, album.

Sepehr was born in the US of Iranian parents and Shahin was born in Iran. They met as youths and began playing together at Iran's International School as youths in the early '70s, They reteamed many years later in Washington DC and released the first of 6 albums in 1994. This is the title song from their "Best of" album.

Ottmar Liebert is a German-born guitaist and five-time Grammy nominee. When he labeled his music "New Flamenco," it generated a controversy in the "Flamenco" community. But it clearly falles into the "New Age" genera. This is "Snake Charmer" from one of his Grammy nominated albums, "The Hours Between Night and Day."

Enigma is a German New Age band formed by Romanian-born Michael Cretu. Their fascination with old-world culture blended nicely with the dance club culture. The debut album, MCMXC a D received 57 platinum awards worldwide. This song, "Return to Innocence" is from their "Cross of Changes" released in 1994.

Electronic

Electronic music is also one of my favorites. I discovered it in the 60's when Perry & Kingsley got airtime on my local radio stations.

"Baroque Hoedown" was used on Disneland's Main Street Parades for three decades.

"The Savers," besides winning the Clio Award for music in 1968, became the introduction music in 1972 to a popular television game show, "The Jokers Wild."

The Beach Boys ventured into electronic music when they used the Theremin in their song, "Good Vibrations."

Galbatron is now a defunct duo from Holland. I discovered them on MP3.com before it was bought out to became someone's profit-driven business venture. Back then artists could upload their songs and they got paid by cd purchases and plays/downloads. Galbatron's classical influence is obvious.
DIX

Unfortunately many of Galbatron's tracks are 6, 7, 8 minutes long. This is one of their shorter ones, "Robotica (The First Voyage." Also from their Robotica Album.

DJ Dado or more properly known as Flavio Daddato, an Italian DJ with Croatian roots. He is known mostly for his electronic remixes and his "X-Files Theme." This selection "The Legend of Babel" if from the CD "Great4est Hits and Future Bits" (1998). Notice the unusual rhythm and outstanding bass line.

OK. Now hold your hats! I first heard "Spybreak" by the Propellerheads on the movie "The Matrix." Another song with an interesting base line that absolutely supported the scene in the movie. Propellerheads is not an artist I favor so this is the only song of thiers that I have in my colleciton.

Genre bending Classical-Rock

The East Village Opera Company was co-founded by two Canadians, Tyley Ross and Peter Kiesewalter. It can basically be described as a cover band as they re-arrange traditional operatic pieces into, as Wikipedia calls it, "more modern musical stylings." La Donna E Mobile Redux is my favoriet piece. It has plenty of power and lots of variety.

The Trans Siberian Orchestra blends the veteran hard rock producer, Paul O'Neill, with a 60-piece orchestra and a chours. Most consider their music Rock Opera. But in any case TSO has sold more than 10 million concert tickets and over 10 million albums. My selection is from the album "The Lost Christmas" the fourth in what was supposed to be a trilogy of Christmas CD's.
Wizards in Winter

I am getting tired/bored and will have to embellish my list with more information later. Writing html is hard work. So if there is less information on artists and songs from here on, you know why.

Songs That Didn't Fit Into Other Groups but Worth Listening To

Why Can't This Be Love by Van Halen. I am not real fond of most of their work, but who can't dig this?
Why Can't This Be Love

Savannah Nights by Tom Johnston of Doobie Brothers fame. He tried to make a solo career after he left the Doobies (for health reasons) but never quite made it. Lots of interesting bass adds character to his work.

Children of Sanchez by Chuck Mangione. This is considered Jazz Pop. It won a Grammy for best Pop Instrumental in '78.

Mike Post in Railhead Overture. This was from his first album and as far as I am concerned is much better than anything that followed. Unfortunately, no one else thinks so. I had to record this from the vinyl -- thus the poor fidelity and scratches.

I can't leave this one out. You ever heard of Tap Guitar? This is Erik Mongrain with a tune from his CD, "Fates" (2007).
Air Tap

Can't tell you how many I had to leave off. In fact, I included some songs that I am sure you have heard before. I couldn't help myself. So I am going to quit here. Happy Listening! Patti
