Patricia Dolan is
currently giving private piano lessons in her Georgetown studio as well
as at CCPA/CCSA in Austin. She strongly believes that the musical aspect
of our humanity is God-given and therefore, an essential part of daily
life. Her teaching approach emphasizes theory, ear training, sight reading,
with the option of hymn playing, using time-honored piano repertoire
as well as that of talented new composers. She offers coaching, accompanying,
church choral and general sacred music assistance.
The British composer
Sir Edward Elgar said, "...there is music in the air... you
simply take as much as you require." Every individual relates
to music on some level, and each level is important. Ralph Vaughan Williams
pictured a pyramid of music makers: virtuosos at the top, "general
practitioners" below that, and amateurs at the foundation,
"sustaining those above them and at the same time depending
upon them for strength and inspiration."
Music is an essential
part of our existence. It motivates, calms, comforts, and speaks to
us in as many ways as there are people. Your musical expression, at
whatever part of the pyramid you may be, is paramount.
There are few who
are unable to understand music. Lack of aptitude is often confused with
lack of opportunity. And the opportunities exist for everyone to become
more engaged with the music "in the air."
Whether you are
new to lessons, have lesson experience, or tried and felt like a failure,
the important element is your personal desire to discover a musical
expression. You have a lifetime of music making ahead of you.
