Membership:
The tested person must be a male whose surname is *Phelps (or an acceptable
spelling variant) and who considers himself to be a Phelps descendant. Membership is open to
anyone and is
indicated by the two email addresses associated with the FTDNA test.
* Those not
meeting the requirements may be given a temporary membership to allow access
to FTDNA analysis and contact with matched Phelps.
Because of the potential sensitivity of y-DNA and genealogy involving our wide ranging efforts, and because of the possibility of misunderstandings of roles and commitments, the following is required for membership. Please do not let this discourage you from joining us. By joining or participating in the project, you agree to the following disclaimer and liability release.
If you accept the terms of membership click the highlighted agreement below. On the resulting FTDNA Order page you select the desired test from the list provided and click the "Order Now" button. (If you are already have a FTDNA test simply log on to your FTDNA account and click the "Join Projects" button)
Important: If you are ordering for another person, make certain they are aware of the information on this page. If you want to see the results or participate in the research, you must also provide your email address on the order. We urge you to NOT test the DNA of a close relative which would point to a living common ancestor. There is no point in doing so since your dna should match almost perfectly and you have proved nothing. On the other hand, if your dna does not match you have unnerving information.
Note: Charges for DNA testing are exclusively a function of FTDNA. The Phelps Surname Project and its administrators have no commercial or contractual affiliation with FTDNA or any other profit making organization and receive no financial support. Our surname project is registered at Family Tree DNA (FTDNA).
After your results are known: If you want your Phelps lineage to be listed and integrated on this website, send it to the administrator. It should contain only the Phelps males, their birth and death locations and dates. Do not include siblings , marriages, or anyone born after 1910.
Our guiding policy is that the tested submitter of a lineage or his representative is the final authority of his lineage – regardless of objections of other researchers. Except for unusual situations, only direct paternal lineages with minimal data of tested men will be posted on the Phelps YDNA Project. Uncertain data, as determined by the submitter, will be yellow highlighted. Other researchers and the lineage coordinator may offer alternative research for consideration. Click here to see how lineages are shown when there is a common ancestor with another tested member.
