GA Maps showing counties of Phelps movement  

The maps follow below

 Compiled by Doug Phelps 8/14/2014 subject to correction.  From the work of several researchers (Mark Phelps, Ed Phelps, Thomas Phelps, Walter Phelps) the below is an attempt to show the locations of the various Phelps with origins in Georgia  All these Phelps are related based on ydna tests of descendants.  Use the underlined links to go to the evidence.   These reports or the links to them are found in the GA section of Southern Phelps Families repository

 

1765: James Phelps from Tewkesbury, Eng to Liberty Co, GA 1765 Liberty Co  LIB: . Colonial parishes of St. John, St. James and St. Andrew in 1777.  Later,  Mclntosh and Long counties from Liberty  See Third Family of Ga in 1899 The Phelps family of America and their English ancestors  page 1560 Vol 2. 

 

1767-69: William Phelps had 200 acres granted to him on the great Kioka Creek in SW Creek lands c. 1767-1769    (now Dougherty County/Baker Co., founded 1853)   (Colonial Records of the State of Georgia, Volume X, 1907, p. 838)

 

Pre 1800?:  Possible 4th major line of Phelps from GA (possibly from VA and Ireland)

JAC:  Jackson Co.  founded 1796      Reported by a descendant kit B6124: Possibly a Frank (Francis) Phelps b bef 1797;  his son William A. Phelps b 1807 Jackson Co(?).

 

1775-1780  David Phelps SR, (father of David Whitman Phelps)  born in GA,  son David Whitman Phelps m. Harris co, GA 1843   Reported by ydna kit 331140 - as of 8/2014 being described as a 4th ydna matching Phelps line.

 

Movement of Albemarle Va Phelps to Elbert Co   EL:  Elbert Co. founded 1790 

1795:  The Family of Thomas Phelps Sr and Christian Staples, likely descendant (?) of Thomas Phelps d.1751 Albemarle Co, VA  (1793) 

1795-1810:  Grantors and grantees of Elbert Co : Aquilla, Avington, William, John, David  1795-1810

 

Movement of Rowan Co, NC Felps to Richmond Co to Jasper Co

RiRichmond Co. founded 1777      Reported in some extensive Felps of Md/ Rowan Co. genealogies as a movement of the Rowan Co Felps to Richmond Co/ St Paul’s parish (became Richmond Co 1777) .  Some returned to Rowan or Iredell co, NC    Reports indicate a movement from Richmond Co to Jasper Co.
