Community Service

Part of being good Parrot Heads means giving something back to our communities. "Leave it better than you found it " is a common motto with Parrot Heads. All of the nationally sanctioned chapters of Parrot Heads In Paradise, Inc. are involved in helping those in need. Whether it be an organized fund raiser for a recognized charity, a beach sweep, or any other activity that will benefit others in our communities, Parrot Heads all over the country are proving to be invaluable to charitable organizations in their areas.

Here are just some of the efforts that our club has been involved in.

Adopt-A-Road Project

In March 2011, we began a project that we hope will continue in the future.  We signed up for the city's Adopt a Road Program and selected a 1.5 mile stretch of road on Sallier St, between Lake St and the Port of Lake Charles.  On March 26th we had about 40 of our members join together and picked up litter and then gathered for burgers & margaritas at Glenn & Nancy Rogers' house.  It was a wonderful day and we hope that it is just the first of many more to come.

Angels In Tropical Shirts

Our club teamed up with Angels in Tropical Shirts to help raise $6,500 for the Ethel Precht Breast Cancer 3k fund!

In the fall of 2008 we presented LAPAW with $2,500 that we raised as a result of our Last Man Standing silent auction.  We later learned that the funds helped them pay off the balance of their vet bill and allowed them to finish in the black at the end of the year for the first time in a long while.

During the summer in 2008, we donated a truckload of non-perishables to Abraham's Tent.  We collected the dry goods at meetings over a two month period.

A concert we set up in May of 2008 yielded a $1,500 donation to the Southwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross.

In 2007 we made our first donation of $1,000 to LAPAW (Lake Area partners for Animal Welfare).

We made a $1,200 donation to Kingsley Place in 2004 to purchase literature to help establish an Alzheimer Reference Library in the facility.
