Common yarrow
(Achillea millifolium)

The spicy fragrance of common yarrow is a summer treat in sunny places on the northern California coast. Look for yarrow at the upper margins of beaches, on rocky bluffs, and in unmowed, grassy areas. The flat-topped clusters of small, white daisy-like flowers appear in June and July.
