From an elevation of 160 feet, steps descend to Trinidad Bay. Until 1916, the wooded slope on the left was home to a Yurok village called Tsurai (roughly pronounced "chew rye"). Please keep strictly on the trail to avoid damage to irreplaceable cultural resources.
On your descent, note the California bay tree
(Umbellularia californica) on your right. In the photo,
it is the big evergreen behind the bend in the trail. Bay trees are
uncommon on the immediate coast near Trinidad.
