Information provided by Gerald Preas
Uncle Eldon never had any children, he would never talk of his WWII service to anyone.
The day his mother was dying, we were in Hospital. He started crying and told me some of record in WW11.
He was at June 6Th 1944, Normandy Beach landing. He said "for 36 straight hours he drove ship to shore.
All the time there were rows of landing ships doing the same. You could see German shells hitting the
"sitting Duks". Several next to him were hit, with a large hole in water, then blood red. He said they
thought all the time his Duk would be next" After German Surrender, he was placed on ship to be shipped
to Japan, but en-route Peace was declared. He was separated June 17 1946, Camp Fannin, Tx.
