Will of Amy Preas - 1868


 

                                                        Written:  9 February 1866       Presented:  24 February 1868

 

                                In the name of God, Amen.  I, Amy Preas, of the County of Bedford and the State of Virginia being of

                                sound disposing mind and memory do make and constitute this my last will and testament.

        1st  I will and bequeath to Jeremiah Wood my lot of land and all my property of every kind with the following exceptions.

        2nd  I will and bequeath to my four nieces, Permelia Brown, Sarah Brown, Nancy Brown and Wilmouth Brown, one bed & furniture.

        3rd  My will and desire is that out of a bond I have now in the hands of William H. Preas, my burial expences and all expences

                that I may be at for clothing or otherwise shall be paid, and if there is any of the bond left after paying the expences I will

                and bequeath the remainder to William H. Preas.

        4th  I hereby constitute and appoint William H. Preas Executor to this my last will and testament.

                        In Bedford County Court February 24th 1868.

        A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Amy Preas deceased dated 9th day of February 1866 produced in Court,

        proved according to law by the oath that he and Robert E. Jones (who now resides out of this State) in the presence of each other

        and of the testatrix(?) attested the said will, which will is ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of William H. Preas, the

        Executor in said will named, who made oath and together with Jeremiah Wood his security entered into and acknowledged a bond

        in the penalty of Two hundred dollars conditioned according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of said will in

        due form, the said security being justified which bond is ordered to be recorded.
