This tutorial was written by QueenBrat on 10/10/2008 using PSP 9 and Animation Shop. Any version of PSP should work.

It is an intermediate tutorial. You will need a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation shop.

Supplies Needed
PSP program of your choice (Free trial version PSP12 here.)
Animation Shop (Trial versionhere.)
Tube of your choice.
Scrap kit of your choice.
Filters Unlimited 2.0 You may download it here.
Alien Skin Eye Candy (any version should work)
Two Fonts of your choice. I used: Aachen BT (Download available here.) A Charming Font Superexpanded (Download available here.)

Word Art Tube

(Your pop up stoppers will need to be turned off if you click the link and nothing happens.)



1. Open the included QBD_lightning1.psp file. Hereafter this will be referred to as your working graphic.

2. Open background file QBD_SmellMyFeet_Paper15. Promote to background layer. Apply your filters unlimited filter to this paper. I used Edges, Round > Round Edge 13. Copy and paste into your working graphic as your bottom layer. Resize to 95% of the original graphic size.

3. Open the file QBD_SmellMyFeet_HauntedHouse01. Resize to 50% of the original graphic size. Copy and paste the haunted house into your working graphic as a new layer on top of the bottom black layer.

4. Add a glow to your haunted house using eyecandy with the following settings:

Outside Glow > Glow Radius=20.52 > Soften corners=100 > Overall Opacity=10> Distortion Amount=0 > Distortion Lump Size=100 > Smoothness=70 > color=#FFFFFF



5. Open the file QBD_SmellMyFeet_Tree01. Resize to 40% of the original graphic size. Copy and paste the tree into your working graphic as a new layer on top of the haunted house layer.

6. Add a glow to your haunted house using eyecandy with the following settings:

Outside Glow > Glow Radius=20.52 > Soften corners=100 > Overall Opacity=10> Distortion Amount=0 > Distortion Lump Size=100 > Smoothness=70 > color=#FFFFFF

7. Open the file QBD_SmellMyFeet_Fence01. Resize to 35% of the original graphic size. Copy and paste the fence into your working graphic as a new layer on top of the tree layer.

8. Merge the haunted house layer, tree layer, and the fence layer when you are satisfied with their position.

9. Resize your merged house layer to 50% of the original. Adjust to suit you according to the lightning.

10. Open the file QBD_SmellMyFeet_Frame05. Resize to 55% of the original graphic size. Copy and paste the frame into your working graphic as a new layer and bring to top. Adjust to center house inside the frame.

11. With your freehand selection tool highlight the area on the ouside of the witches hat frame.



12. Delete all of the material inside the highlighted area on each of the lightening layers and the haunted house layer.

13. Add a glow to your witch hat frame using eyecandy with the following settings:

Outside Glow > Glow Radius=24.40 > Soften corners=100 > Overall Opacity=10> Distortion Amount=0 > Distortion Lump Size=100 > Smoothness=16 > color=#37722c.



14. Open your tube of choice. I used Elias Chatzoudis' Roxanne tube.

15. copy and paste your tube into your working graphic as your top layer.

16. Add a glow to your tube using eyecandy with the following settings:

Outside Glow > Glow Radius=24.40 > Soften corners=100 > Overall Opacity=10> Distortion Amount=0 > Distortion Lump Size=100 > Smoothness=16 > color=#37722c

17. Add a drop shadow to your tube layer with the following settings: vertical: -9, horizontal: 8, Opacity: 89, Blur: 33.66, Color: #000000.

18. Increse the canvas size of your working graphic to 900x900. Add 200pixels to the bottom and 200pixels to the left. Don't worry we will cut away the excess canvass in a later step.



19. Adjust the black background layer moving it to the left. See previews below.



20. Add the provided word art (QBB_WordArt_Evil.psp) as a new layer on top of the black background.

21. Add a glow to your word art using eyecandy with the following settings:

Outside Glow > Glow Radius=10.83 > Soften corners=100 > Overall Opacity=10> Distortion Amount=0 > Distortion Lump Size=100 > Smoothness=16 > color=#72802a



22. Add your name to your working graphic as a vector layer on top of the black background layer.

I used the following settings:

First name:
Create as: Vector
Font: Aachen BT
Size: 125
Stroke: 2.0
Font style: BOLD
Alignment: Center
Anti-alias: Smooth
Kerning: -50
Foreground color: #72802a
Background color: #000000


Add a drop shadow to your tube layer with the following settings: vertical: 1, horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 2.0, Color: #000000.

Create as: Vector
Font: A Charming Font Superexpanded
Size: 125
Stroke: 1.0
Font style: BOLD
Alignment: Center
Anti-alias: Smooth
Kerning: 0
Foreground and background color: #72802a


Add a drop shadow to your tube layer with the following settings: vertical: 1, horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 2.0, Color: #000000.

23. Using the Crop tool, cut away the extra space on the tag. Resize your working graphic to your desired size.

24. Add your copyright information and logo/watermark to your working graphic.

25. Create a new raster layer and send to the bottom of your working graphic. Flood fill with #FFFFFF.

26. You are now ready to set it up for Animation Shop. Begin by turning the visibility to all layers of the lightning off except the first one.

27. Copy Merged and Paste as New Image.

28. Turn off visibility of layer 1 and turn on visibility of layer 2.

29. Copy Merged and Paste as New LAYER into the first merged frame you just did.

30. Turn off visibility of Layer 2 and turn on visibility of Layer 3.

31. Copy Merged and Paste as New LAYER into the first merged frame you just did.

32. Continue turning off visibility of previous merged frame and turning on the next until you do all 10 lightning frames.

33. You should now have a new image with 10 frames.

34. Save to an easy to find location on your harddrive.

35. Go to animation shop.

36. Open the image you just saved.

37. Select all frames. Go to Animation > Frame Properties > set to 40.

38. Save as an animation.
