Kick Rocks












This tutorial was written by QueenBrat on 10/10/2008 using PSP 9 and Animation Shop. Any version of PSP should work.

It is an intermediate tutorial. You will need a good working knowledge of PSP and Animation shop.

I'm using the artwork of Elias Chatzoudis of www.elias-design.gr. You may purchase a license to use his work from www.MyPSPtubes.com.

I am also using one of my PTU scrap kits, "Emo Girl", which can be purchased at MyPSPTubes.com.

Any resemblance to any other tutorial is strictly coincidental.



Supplies Needed
PSP program of your choice (Free trial version PSP12 here.)
Animation Shop (Trial versionhere.)
Two tubes. One headshot tube. One full body tube.
Scrap kit of your choice.
One Font of your choice.

(Your pop up stoppers will need to be turned off if you click the link and nothing happens.)



1. Open a 700x700 transparent frame. Hereafter this will be called your working graphic.

2. Open the file QBD_Devil-icious_FrameCenter.png. Copy and paste this file into your working graphic. Duplicate layer.

3. Click Selections > Select All.

4. Click Selections > Float.

5. Open your the headshot tube file. Resize the headshot tube to 400x400. Paste as a new layer into your working graphic.

6. Click Selections > Invert.

7. Delete any of the tube that does not fit into the Frame Center.

8. Merge down to first frame center layer. Working graphic should now have a solid black circle layer and the headshot layer merged into the second black circle.

9. Save this as a psp file to an easily found location.

10. Open animation shop.

11. Find the file that you just saved and open it in animation shop.

12. Select all.

13. Click Effects > Insert Image Transition > Slats.
Set Transition Length to 1.6secs.
Set Frames per second to 8fps.
It should now read "Transition contains a total of 12 frames".
Click on the Customize button.
Set Number of Slats to 24.
Set Slat orientation to Verticle.
Set Slat Movement to Left to Right.
Click OK.
Click OK on the Insert Image Transition box.




14. Your working graphic is now 14 frames. Locate the 14th frame (Headshot picture with no lines) and select that frame.

15. Click Animation > Frame Properties > Set this frame to 60.

16. Leave these frames open in animation shop and go back to PSP.

17. Open the frame of your choice. (I used QBD_EmoGirl_Frame01.png.)

18. Resize frame to 600x600 pixels.

19. Copy frame and go back to animation shop.

20. Paste as a new animation.

21. Copy frame animation.

22. Go back to your working graphic frames. Select all. Go to edit > Propagate Paste > edit > Paste > Into Selected Frame.

23. Your frame should now be pasted into all of the frames of your working graphic.

24. Select all frames.

25. Copy and paste these frames as a "new image" in PSP.

26. Resize your working grapic to 500x500 pixels.

27. Increase your canvas size to 700x700 adding 100 pixels to all sides.

28. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_paper03.jpg.

29. Copy and paste as a new layer into your working graphic. Send to the bottom.

30. Open the file boundlessbliss_grungemask_1.jpg and drop into your tray.

31. With your QBD_EmoGirl_paper03 layer click layers > New Mask Layer > From Image > source luminance > Invert Mask Date > find the boundlessbliss_grungemask_1.jpg in the dropdown menu > click OK. Merge group.

32. Open the file Becky_Mask042.jpg and drop into your tray.

33. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_paper05.jpg.

34. Copy and paste as a new layer into your working graphic as the layer second from the bottom.

35. With your QBD_EmoGirl_paper05 layer click layers > New Mask Layer > From Image > source luminance > find the Becky_Mask042.jpg in the dropdown menu > click OK. Merge group.

36. Duplicate this layer twice.

37. Merge the bottom four layers.

38. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_Swirl01.png. Resize to 50% of the original file.

39. Copy and paste into your working graphic as a new layer second from bottom. Add a drop shadow to the swirl layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 10.89, color: #000000

40. Duplicate layer. Mirror image. Flip image.

41. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_Ribbon01.png. Resize to 50% of original size.

42. Copy and paste as the top layer into your working graphic. Rotate 15 degrees to the right. Sharpen as needed.

43. Add a drop shadow to the ribbon layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 10.89, color: #000000

44. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_Ribbon03.png. Resize to 50% of original size.

45. Copy and paste as the top layer into your working graphic. Flip image. Mirror image. Sharpen as needed.

46. Add a drop shadow to the ribbon layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 10.89, color: #000000

47. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_Buttons05.png. Resize to 75% of the original file. Copy and paste into your working graphic positioning over the two ribbons.

48. Add a drop shadow to the ribbon layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 10.89, color: #000000

49. Open the file QBD_EmoGirl_skullkeychain.png. Copy and paste into your working graphic positioning over the two ribbons but under the button layer. Add a drop shadow to the skull layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 10.89, color: #000000

50. Open your full body tube. Resize to desired size if needed.Copy and paste as the top layer into your working graphic. Add a drop shadow to the skull layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 89, Blur: 10.89, color: #000000.

51. Add new raster layer and send to the bottom. Flood fill with #FFFFFF.

52. Add your name to a new layer third from the bottom. I used these settings:
Create as: Vector
font: Ghetto Broke (included in zip)
size: 84
stroke: 2
Alignment: center
anti-alias: smooth
foreground: #000000
background: glitter text fill (included in zip)


Add a drop shadow to the text layer. I used these settings: Vertical: 1, Horizontal: 1, Opacity: 72, Blur: 2.97, color: #000000.

53. Resize your working graphic to the size you desire.

54. Add your copyright info and your logo/watermark to your working graphic.

55. You are now ready to set it back up for Animation Shop. Begin by turning the visibility to all the frame layers off except the first one.

56. Copy Merged and Paste as New Image.

57. Turn off visibility of layer 1 and turn on visibility of layer 2.

58. Copy Merged and Paste as New LAYER into the first merged frame you just did.

59. Turn off visibility of Layer 2 and turn on visibility of Layer 3.

60. Copy Merged and Paste as New LAYER into the first merged frame you just did.

61. Continue turning off visibility of previous merged frame and turning on the next until you do all 14 frames.

62. You should now have a new image with 14 frames.

63. Save to an easy to find location on your harddrive.

64. Go to animation shop.

65. Open the image you just saved.

66. Click Edit > Select all.

67. Click Animation > Reverse Frames.

68. Locate frame 14 of your working graphic. This should be the frame where the framed headshot is solid with no lines.

69. Click Animation > Frame properties and set to 60.

70. Save as an animation.
