My sons fall asleep each night
to various classical and new-age pieces ... tunes that make for
great stories, some told, some waiting to be written.
"Movie music" or soundtracks
and scores from films have always grabbed my attention. There's
something about the way a melody and instrumental bed of sounds
can create visuals for the imagination. Works from artists like Vangelis (one of my inspirations)
stirs the mind and transports you to a moment, a scene or setting.
This is a 31:00 minute disc meant
to be played while falling asleep (or preparing to). There is
almost a minimalistic approach to these tracks - repetitive,
but not looped. Even the titles are intended to be simple.
There is a consistent foundation
of acoustic guitar. I was newly encouraged by Kyser's Short-Cut
capo which paves the way for a droning, fresh incarnation of
strings singing in different tuning without learning new fingerings.
Most of the acoustic parts here are double capo'd in the 6th
to 9th fret.
Surprisingly, the inexpensive
synthesizer provided more than enough sounds for melody lines
and pad beds when coupled with expansive reverbs.
I hope you enjoy letting these
tunes trigger cinematographic visions as you drift into slumber.
