Many people will tell you that Humboldt County is a wonderful place to raise a family.
Far away from polluted air and traffic congestions, it offers a rewarding environment for those who love nature and a laid-back atmosphere.

Sequoia Park and the Sequoia Zoo are popular targets for families with small children. Students from Washington Elementary School often use it for field trips because the Zoo is right across the street.
The Discovery Museum is a favorite spot on rainy days.


Arts

The Studio School is a Visual Arts Program for 2-17 year olds.



Sports

For school-aged kids there are many sports opportunities in Humboldt County. Here's a limited listing:

Each high school, university and college have their football and basketball teams (Ferndale Wildcats, CR Redwoods, and others). 
Elementary and middle school students can choose to join the  Eureka Loggers, the Eureka Lumberjacks, the McKinleyville Panthers, or the Arcata and Fortuna clubs.

If your child likes swimming, there is the Redwood Swim Club and the Humboldt Swim Club, both of which are part of the Pacific Swimming Club, and regularly participate in swim meets with other California and Nevada swim clubs.

There are several dojos for the martial arts enthusiast. Eureka Judo & JuJitsu Kodokan, Fusuikan School of Martial Arts, Jobu Shin Kan, The Health and Karate Center are located in Eureka.

For Gymnastics there is the Flips for Kids and Jump Start Gymnastics.

The Humboldt County Recreation website offers a wide array of information with regard to county, state, and national parks, as well as the many rivers.
