Prosperity Cookies for Yule

• 1/2 tsp ground ginger [money]
• 1/2 tsp ground cloves [money]
• 1/4 tsp nutmeg [antihunger]
• 1 tsp cinnamon [success]
• 1/2 cup brown sugar[love]
• 3/4 cup molasses [love]
• 1/2 tsp salt [protection]

Combine in the top of a large double boiler [water on the bottom]. On medium-high heat, stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Stir first widdershins(anti-clockwise) to banish poverty, then doesil(clockwise) to pull in abundance and prosperity.

Remove from heat, stir in 1/2 cup butter [1 1/2sticks] . Once butter melts completely, add 1 beaten egg [fertility], and mix well. Stir in 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour [abundance], & 1 tsp baking soda.

Chill dough in refrigerator for 3 hours. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. [If using cookies for tree decorations... place a BEAN in the dough where the hole should be... after baking the bean pops out and a ribbon can be threaded through]

Bake for 12 ~ 15 minutes. Edges should be slightly brown. Decorate with icing if desired.
