Welcome Parents and Cub Scouts:

Welcome to Pack 350 Cub Scouts! Pack 350 is chartered by the Bowen Elementary School PTO and registered by the Sam Houston Area Council in the Arrowmoon District.  Information can be found here for Bowen Pack 350 Cub Scouts.  It may be helpful for you to bookmark the page as one of your favorite Internet web pages.  We will be posting organization announcements and calendar of events here.

Dear Parent,

We are asking your Cub Scout to help make a difference in the lives of his friends by personally inviting them to join Cub Scouts with him. Studies have shown that boys tend to gravitate towards participating in activities that their friends participate in. We believe that your son is more likely to stay in Scouting, and get the full benefits of a proven program, if his friends are in it with him!

What are those benefits again?

  • Learn new things

  • Develop new skills

  • Develop a sense of belonging

  • Enjoy a supervised environment for activities

  • Learn citizenship, character, and fitness

  • Develop leadership skills

  • Develop self-confidence as he earns badges

  • Spending "quality time" with family and leaders

  • And, YES, he will have a lot of fun too!

Please help your son participate in the "My Best Friend Is a Scout" program.  Your son can earn a special recruiter patch if he gets a friend to join. Remind him to take the two invitations to school to give to his friends. The invitation should be personalized and come directly from your Cub Scout to his friends.

Another way you can help is to follow up with the parents of your son’s friends and encourage them to come to the meetings. Your son will have more fun in Scouts if his friends join, and you just may make some new friends yourself! Many thanks to you and your family for choosing Scouting for your son. The time you spend with him in Scouting is very important and will help him to grow into the best adult he can be!

Purpose:

The purpose of the Cub Scouts (a part of Boy Scouts of America) is to promote, through cooperation with other agencies, the ability of youth to do things for themselves and others, and to teach youth patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues.  In achieving this purpose, emphasis is place upon the Boy Scouts of American's educational program and its oaths, promises and codes for character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness.

BobcatWhere does my Cub Scout start?

All Cub Scouts must earn the Bobcat badge first; there are eight steps to complete this achievement.

Leadership Requirements:

Blue & Gold 2008Be a Volunteer!  The applicant must possess the moral, educational, and emotional qualities that the BSA deems necessary to afford positive leadership to youth.  The applicant must also be the correct age, and subscribe to the Declaration of Religious Principle, and abide by the Scout Oath or Promise, and the Scout Law.  Would you consider being a leader?  You can go on-line at the link you will find below and submit it to one of the Pack 350 leaders.

Please sign-up to be a Cub Scout or Cub Scout Leader by contacting one of the leaders mentioned below.  The organization is only as good as the leaders and parents that volunteer for our boys.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q:  When can we join Cub Scouts?

A:  Anytime!  Each year in the Fall we have a Night to Join Scouting--this year on August 31, 2006 at 7pm in the Bowen cafeteria, however, you can join in the fun at anytime!  Just contact a leader and come to the den meetings, pack meetings, and other special events.  To be a Tiger Cub, you must be turning 7 years of age by June (the end of the school year), and be in the 1st grade (home-schooled boys should be turning 7 years of age by June).

Q:  Where should we start?

A:  All Cub Scouts MUST earn the Bobcat badge first.  You should obtain a Cub Scout field manual for your Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos scout.  This booklet is MOST helpful and has all the information you and your Cub Scout need to go through the achievement program.

Q: Where can I get uniforms and field manuals for my Cub Scout?  What do I need?  Where to place the patches?

A:  Burdett & Son Outdoor Adventure Shop, 1055 Texas Ave. S., College Station, TX 77840, Phone: (979) 695-2807.  Store located on Texas Avenue right across from the Texas A&M Golf Course south of the main entrance.

A2: You can order Scout Uniforms online from ScoutStuff.org

A3: The Virtual Uniform Insignia Handbook is  a place to start, also.

Q: What are the yearly dues?

A: Yearly dues are $24 for BSA which includes for Boy's Life Magazine (for 6 month's from September through February--when our re-charter occurs is $12).  However, there may be dues received for rewards and recognitions or activities or crafts for each of the dens.

Q: Can I donate to the Pack?

A: Yes!  Please write your check to Pack 350.  Your donations help to underwrite all costs of the organization, including reward recognitions.  Pack 350 has a popcorn sales event each year to help cover costs.

Q: Where can I find forms?

A: You can get forms at Burdett and Son's, contact the one of the leaders mentioned below, or you can get most forms at the following website:  www.scouting.org/forms
