The Ruston Police Department has 2 officers who are assigned as full-time juvenile investigators. These officers are specially trained in the investigation of criminal matters which are committed both by and against juveniles. In Louisiana, a juvenile is anyone under the age of 17. By law, many incidents and offenses involving juveniles must be handled differently than similar incidents involving adult offenders. Our Juvenile Investigators act as a liaison to local schools and have an excellent working relationship with the local school staff. These officers work very closely with the juvenile court and the juvenile justice system, as well as the Office of Family Services, to not only reduce juvenile crime, but to try to help many of today's troubled and misguided youths to get back on the right track before they become adults.
