The Ruston Police Department continually explores advancements in technology that can improve operational effectiveness. Within recent years, through both grant and budgeted funding, we have been successful in equipping all police patrol vehicles with in-car video and audio recording equipment that gives the officer the capability to record most police activities. These recordings have proven to be extremely beneficial both in evidence collection as well as resolving citizen complaints and providing useful training material. Our vehicles are also equipped with laptop computers that give the officer the necessary access to the Louisiana Motor Vehicle and Drivers License database, as well as criminal information and history through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). This capability not only relieves the dispatcher of additional activities, but gives the officer on the street vital information and in many cases a photograph of the suspect or violator that can be helpful in resolving an investigation.
