His long fingers rolled the bullet around -- the same caliber

that had taken his son.

It was always in his possession, a quirky habit he hadn’t

deliberately cultivated.

He’d placed it in his pocket before the Abydos mission –

for convenience – in case he felt the encroachment of the

torturous, pain-filled misery that assaulted him when least

expected. It had been his ‘Plan C’.

Yet, time passed, circumstances changed. He now had a mission.

He now had people he cared for.

It evolved into his lucky charm rather than the tool meant

to end his tormented existence.

Go figure.
