Tatting in the Comics

Assistant Guard Donald Duck directs a visitor at the Duckburg Museum to the "Lace and Tatting Collection" from Disney's The Golden Helmet. Donald Duck comic book #408, July 1952 (story and art by Carl Barks), reprinted in Gladstone Comic Album Series #13, 1988. Later in the story, Donald, unaware that tatting, along with crochet and knitting, was one of the pastimes of genuine sailors (especially whalers) on long voyages, derides those who "tat their tatting" as "softies".
