Start preserving your family tree
"How-to" for beginners
The links at the bottom of this page will provide most of the
pointers to help you get started on your family tree. Hopefully, following
these basics will allow you to link up with other family lines, many of
which may have been researched extensively by others.
(a little advice for new Hodnett researchers)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS or Mormons)
in Salt Lake City has put the 3rd volume (which pertains to the Hodnetts)
of "McGehee Descendants" on 10 microfiche. Look in your phone book for
the location of the nearest Family History Center, listed under the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You do not have to be a Mormon to
access any material which comes from Salt Lake City. The fiche can be gotten
for around $3 and when it arrives, it STAYS PERMANENTLY at your Family
History Center. The ordering number is 6125504. Should you want hard copies
of any pages (and you probably will), there will be a printer/copier in
the center and it costs about 25 cents per page. There is a full name index
to this book at the end. This is absolutely the first thing anybody interested
in Hodnett ancestors should consult. Quite likely, you're going to find
a grandparent's name in there. Of course, if you know your family came
to this country in the 1800's, you may not find anything in there to help
you. Visit some of the links below for good tips on how to research. Also,
browse through the Hodnett internet sources under HOD
Links. You may then want to contact any of the researchers
to receive guidance. Please share all information you have with researchers
who are helping you. Share and share alike. Happy hunting!!
