My Dear little Mother,
Well, I am well and hearty as I can be and having as much fun and excitement as a fellow could expect. Never had any mail since before we left Columbus until we came back through there today and I had five. Yours, Harry's, Lena's, Roy F. and 'Cile. I also got a couple of presents which were sure surprises to me. A fine stationary case from my girl that is simply fine, and a ten buck note from my big bud. Can't even spend it in this little town. ha ha
The best of all was that I didn't even send a card or anything to a soul. I feel rather sheepish. Well, Mama, we had a fine Christmas at Indianapolis. The Knights of Columbus gave us a big turkey dinner at the swellest hotel in the City and treated us like kings. It started snowing Christmas eve and was white the next morning and has snowed a little every day since. We have several inches of snow now and it's still at it, very lightly. I don't know how the trucks will perform when we get them up in the mountains, but in another week we should be through with them if we have luck. And the last official report is that we will be returned to Funston when this trip is finished and I am hoping that it's right.
Well, Mama, I must scratch a line or so to Harry and thank the dear old boy. I know I will write more often now. Lots and oodles of love to my dear Mama and Papa.
Your son,
Charles L.
