My Dear Mother and Daddy,

This may be my last opportunity to write you this year, so I can't miss the chance. Well, Mama, it has been snowing or raining all the time since I wrote you. It is raining a slow warm rain tonight. Almost like a summer night. So I expect it will be snowing in the morning. We are making it fine and dandy so far with the trucks and can't see why we shouldn't make the rest of the trip fine and dandy.

Well, Mama, this is New Year's Eve and I don't think of any new resolutions to make unless it is to get out of the Army as soon as I can. ha ha And the best of it all is that this is reported to be our last trip with trucks, and they say that we go back to Funston when we get there (Baltimore). I sure hope so for I think they surely won't keep us there in Camp very long if they send us back. I am really anxious to be my own boss again just to see what it's like.

Say but Uniontown is sure celebrating the New Year. I just came from town, or that is, main street. For we are only one block away, in the Fire hall, and a very nice place. Seems like most of the people have been taking on a little intoxicating beverage, for they seem to be having lots of fun and running around in the rain just like it was a fine night.

Well, Mama, I don't know much to say, as I am fine and dandy and we are having very good luck, so will close for tonight. Worlds of love to you and Dad.

Your son,

Charles L.
