DISTRACTION PACKED (the New CD with new band "the Odd URges")is a concept album where Burge takes his main character from a happily married place.( This Song Won’t Write Itself). where his obsession over songwriting gets in the way of his family, to the life of a single man, awkward and "back out there" in the “online social networking” dating world (Live it Up), to the realization that he has passed his prime and is trapped (I’m a Shark) to an attempt to crawl back with what he has left (Old as I Can Be) to the further realization that what once was heaven is now hell(Human Being Dog and Whiskey Heaven) to giving up (Medication) to intervention (Intervene) to rehab (Get Well) to acceptance that life is good or can be if we live in each moment.. (The Bugs are Coming)

BURGE'S MAIN character is both protagonist and antagonist, depending on which verse you are listening to at the time. He rolls through the challenges, and choices humans make while acting like "dogs" or "sharks" and these choices can lead them to a place that at times seems like hell on earth, but somehow, like in most of Burge’s work, there is comedy and tragedy working simultaneously within most of the songs here. Burge has proven to be a master at this and his artful and sardonic word-play, for which he is well known, has never been sharper than on Distraction Packed.

Although each song stands on its own, this is an album of songs that really is best if listened to in one sitting. (You can do it. I clocks at about 40 minutes!) Burge is superb.

For the uninitiated, Burge is one of West Virginia's
foremost songwriters, and his catalog spans nearly 15 years of recordings. His musical roots are deeply engrained in local folk history, and the songs on his newest release, "Hip About Time," only gives Burge a stronger hold on the scene that nurtured him.
