Top Water Guide Service is owned and operated by my father Charlie Hughes. Between my father and I, Paul, there is over 70 years of experience floating and fishing the rivers and streams of southern West Virginia and neighboring Virginia. We have guided fishermen on these rivers for the past 5 years and have taken many prestigious clients such as West Virginian basketball great Jerry West fishing on our rivers.

We believe that our BI-YAK is the most comfortable, stable, maneuverable, and functional fishing platform for floating and fishing the rivers that we guide. Please check out our page on the BI-YAK to get a better idea for what it is and what it does.

Our favorite river to float is the Greenbrier River which is only a couple of rock throws from our house. But we also have some great sections on the James River and the New River, and we will float sections on the Cowpasture or the Jackson water permitting.

We offer fly-fishing or spin fishing on a number of prime trout streams. From tiny mountain creeks deep in the Monongahela forest fishing for Native Brooke Trout, to fishing famous stretches of catch-and-release streams such as Second Creek. We offer all the needed equipment and instructions on technique to help you on your way.

Some of the most important traits we provide are our ability to catch fish, our genuine joy for watching others catch fish, our knowledge of the rivers and surrounding wildlife, and our desire for you to have an enjoyable experience fishing with us.

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned angle, we will give you all the equipment and instruction to catch fish and have an enjoyable day leisurely floating on the river.
