Relaxation Exercise

This is an exercise I've done for years, and you get to the point that you can do it anywhere. I've even been in bars and had to do this to calm down. The really amazing part, was that I got this out of a book on developing psychic abilities when I was 19, and they taught it to us when I was taking Lamaze. It works wonders. :)
Be sure you are wearing loose-fitting clothes. Sit in a comfortable chair. Place your feet on the floor and your arms on the arms of the chair. If there are no arms, rest your hands in your lap. Do not cross your arms or legs. This inhibits the flow of energy. Starting at the top of your head and working to the bottom of your feet, instruct each part of your body to relax in turn. For example, "I feel my scalp relax. All tension is disappearing, leaving my scalp free and light. I feel my head relax, all the tension is leaving my forehead, leaving it peaceful and alert. I feel my eyes relax, my eyelids relax, my eyebrows relax. All of the tension is gone. I am energized and refreshed." Continue with the rest of your body, directing the tension to sink from the shear weight of gravitiy. By the time you reach your ankles, what little tension is left can be directed out through the soles of your feet. Do this exercise slowly, with a gentle, almost monotonous tone of voice. The pace itself will relax you.
