Hello Wanderers, Seekers, Lovers of Reason!

You have found the web page of the first UU church of Lubbock Texas!   Welcome!  Today will be a lovely, day, please come in, look around, visit a while, and consider making us your church community.  You may find our church to be a refreshing and uplifting alternative to the usual religious offerings here in "the buckle of the bible belt."

We are church without creed or dogma.  We welcome all persons without regard to age, gender, sexual orientation, race or other class of exclusion.  All are invited to our regular service, Sundays at 11:00 AM, at 2801 42nd Street, Lubbock, TX 79413.

Upcoming Events of Interest

Search for the Future Weekend November 8

Who:  All First UU Congregants
When: Saturday November 8 from 9:AM to Noon, With a Free Lunch afterwards
Where: At the Church
What:  Brainstorm with other congregants about where we want to go in the future and how to get there
How:  Volunteers will facilitate group discussions with a strict time line
Why:  We can work together to see how we can improve and what we need to do for the next five years

Please set aside the date of Saturday November 8, 9:00 AM to Noon for our Search for the Future event at the church.  Lynn Steele and six volunteer facilitators will present a workshop to develop a vision and mission statement for the church.  In the process we will also create a list of goals to help guide the Dream Team in their work to develop a five year strategy plan for the church.  This is your opportunity to think about the future of First UU Church.  Your ideas and opinions are important to the entire congregation and this will be your best opportunity this fall for you to be a part of this important process.

The workshop will develop lists of ideas about the church mission, our vision, and goals for the next five years.  Then the facilitators will work on a formal mission and vision statement for the church.  If the statements are accepted by the board then the church will vote on them as well.

Once the statements are approved by the congregation, the Dream Team will use the statements and the goals suggested in the Search for the Future workshop to begin their work on developing a strategic plan for the church.  That five year plan will be finished in time for our canvass dinner and finance drive in the spring.

So the Search for the Future event is a crucial step in this year-long journey toward a new direction for our church.  We want a big turnout with many ideas.  So we certainly want all of you to attend and enjoy the work and fun of being part of this exciting time.

Oh, and to add to that fun part, we will provide a lunch at the church immediately following the workshop.  That will be a great time for us all to see each other and enjoy the very reasons why First UU Church is so important to our lives here in Lubbock.  Hope to see you there!

Lynn Steele, leader of the Search for the Future workshop

KOHM Fundraiser

11/07/07 we began our last annual underwriting following the KOHM Fall pledge drive.  For $1,164.84 we received 260 spots.  These were during the classical music time slot, 5 days per week:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.  Although the typical cost is $7 per spot, as a non-profit we are at a rate of $4.48 per spot.

We funnel the money through UUCL, so that all of it is attributed to UUCL, rather than the individual donors (i.e., no checks directly to KOHM, but to UU instead).  However, each donor is recognized as a KOHM member.  Of course, pledge gifts are not obtained at these rates, so that the money has the maximum possible value to both KOHM and UUCL.

There is also a Spring pledge drive, to which we contributed $1,505.00, beginning March 19, 2008.  This covers "other underwriting", including a weekly spot with script.  This weekly script can be altered to become community bulletin for events and activities that we are inviting the public to, with one week's notice to get the script changed.
