Artist Statement
Samantha Hodge-Williams, a Maryland artisan, creates high-quality wearable designs from an unusual array of knit fabrics. “I push the traditional limits of textiles to discover their unique and beautiful hidden qualities”. Through carving, stretching, and heating textiles, she creates spirals, spikes, and tendrils. Samantha also uncovers arrays of hues within specific fibers through the process of color stripping. Whilst sewing together different textiles, Samantha gradually adds and subtracts pieces to create a final balance of form and color. Her work was photographed for Craft Business Magazine and the Crafts Report Magazine following her selection as a ACC Mentored New Artist.
