Born August 4, 1936 in Clinton, TN he was the son of the late Mose and Nora Cook Viles. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Newton. He was a 1959 graduate of the University of Tennessee, a 1996 recipient of the "Distinguished Alumnus" Award and a member of the College of Business Administration Advisory Council to the Dean and member of the Board of Development of the University of Tennessee. Mr. Viles was the former President of Superior Cable Corporation of Hickory. He was an Advisory Board Member for the Salvation Army Corps, an Advisory Council Board Member for the Boys and Girls Club, and previous officer of both Salvation Army Groups. He was a long-time executive board member of the Piedmont Council of the Boy Scouts of America, chairing many scouting campaigns and events. He was a board member of the Newton-Conover Rotary Club and a Local Advisory Board Member of BB&T. Mr. Viles was supporter of higher education including the University of Tennessee, Lenoir Rhyne, Lees McRae, CVCC and N.C. State University. He was a world traveler and loved to study the arts and cultures of the various countries he visited. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Air National Guard.
