He was a member and Deacon of Lincoln Park Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and retiree of Meade Corporation after 34 years of service. He gave unselfishly of his time to serve on several boards to improve the quality of life for handicapped citizens, which included Knox County Association for Retarded Citizens, Rainbow Adult Homes, Green Valley Parent Guardian Association and The Tennessee United Way Family Forum. He was also a member of the Exchange Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Nora Woodard Voiles mother and father, Maggie Dean Chamberlain and Luther Voiles and a son, Kevin Bradley. Survivors: wife of 13 years, Sallie May Voiles sons, Richard R. Voiles and wife, Mary, Victor L. Voiles and wife, Brenda, and Verlyn Gene Voiles brothers, Leonard Voiles and wife, Pearl, Bill Woods and wife, Louise, Robert (R.C.) Voiles and wife, Dorothy sister, Gladys Smith grandchildren, Kelly Ranger and husband, Brian, Karen and Rachel Voiles step-children and grandchildren, Roger and Eddie Reed, Dana Reed-Roach Casey, Ashley, Madison and Melanie Reed. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an interment service at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Keith Walker officiating. Internet research has given varying information on what constituted "dementia" in the 1800s. Some sources state memory loss and/or altered personality; at least once source equates it to schizophrenic psychosis.
