Title: Tranquility: a representation of a soul flying free
Media: fabric

Trudi Chamoff Hauptman comes from a family of immigrant garment workers and learned to sew, knit, and crochet from her mother and maternal grandmother.  She has been working in textile and wearable art all her life.  In 1991 she began to create art pieces in earnest, crafting mostly Judaic-themed wearable works.  In 2002, after creating a tallis (prayer shawl) in commemoration of her mother, Trudi branched out into studio art quilts.  Like her wearables, most of her quilts incorporate Jewish themes, using her interest in her ancestry, heritage, and her family’s rich history.  Trudi has little formal background in art, and so she spends much of her time learning interesting new techniques which she then incorporates into her art pieces.  She also does non-profit administrative work for Swords to Plowshares, a San Francisco veterans’ rights organization.

Trudi is a member of the Peninsula Wearable Art Guild, Contemporary Quilt and Fiber Artists, Studio Art Quilt Association, and Surface Design Association.
