67th Year
Since October 7, 1952
North Carolina started issuing license plates with Amateur Radio callsigns in 1954. I did get them from the beginning but the first 2 were misplaced when I moved to another city. When I transferred to Oklahoma City, I missed getting a call sign plate in 1976. |

In December 1982, K4IWJ, WR4ACH and K5NC expired. The FCC had stopped issuing or renewing Second Station and Repeater callsigns. Also starting in 1983, North Carolina stopped replacing metal license plates each year and started issuing paper stickers instead. Radio Amateurs could still get a new plate made each year and they had the paper stickers attached. Later, the new plates were sent with stickers not attached. All plates issued starting in 1983 are blue characters on white background. The images were captured with the Snappy with video from a Cannon HI-8 mm camcorder. |
