The White River Gang is a member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society). We make a concerted effort to follow SASS rules and guidelines. The SASS Shooters Handbook is available at www.sassnet.com .
Here is some of the more important information.
- We meet on the second Saturday of the month. Starting time differs according to the season. Look on the schedule for times.
- We use firearms common to the period 1859 – 1899 (There are a lot of originals and replicas available.
- We use four guns
- Two pistols that are single action.
- One rifle that is pistol caliber.
- One shotgun maybe double barrel with or without exposed hammers. You can also use the 1887 lever action Winchester or the 1897 Winchester pump.
- We use two or three guns for working cowboy/cowgirl category
- One pistol that is single action.
- One rifle that is pistol caliber and / or
- One shotgun maybe double barrel with or without exposed hammers. You can also use the 1887 lever action Winchester or the 1897 Winchester pump.
- We use an all lead bullet, no jacketed or copper washed bullets allowed (They are hard on our steel targets).
- We will shoot 4 – 6 stages requiring a total of 60 pistol cartridges, 60 rifle cartridges, and 24 (plus) shotgun shells.
- Our clothing is period and is available at any number of sites on line and other locations.

We urge you to try some of our guns and gear to ensure that when you start buying your own, you will buy guns and gear that you know you will be able to use.
The cowboy way is to help our fellow compadres and are lenient about clothing when you first start.
