Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush

Frank Marino has been one of the all-time great rock guitarists since he started playing in the early 1970's. His style spans and shows influence across many genres including psychedelic rock, hard rock, blues rock, heavy metal, jazz, et al. He and his band, Mahogany Rush, have in the past played to very large audiences, including festivals and stadium events, both as headliner and as a "warm-up band". Around 1993, Frank had grown tired of the "suits" in the music industry trying to control his music, his style, album frequency, etc. So, he just stopped playing publicly and took a 7-year hiatus. At the delight of his many fans, he returned to playing and touring around the turn of the century (2000). In recent years, Frank has played in smaller venues. I saw Frank play in Dallas three years in a row (2006-2008, I think it was). He plays three hours plus, straight through with no breaks.

If you like rock guitar music but you're not familiar with Frank Marino, click on the link below which will take you to a page that highlights his only official concert footage. It's a 6-hour (yes, six hours!) collection of his music, and a few covers, filmed at a weekend concert in Cleveland, Ohio in December of 2010 at the Agora Theater and released in July of 2019. (Incidentally, the reason for the long gap between filming and launching the DVD is a whole other story. It had to do with an equipment malfunction and was not noticed until after the concert had concluded. Frank, in a monumental effort, spent literally years on the computer rebuilding the drum track from the concert, note by note.) The concert had been scheduled specifically for the purpose of recording concert footage to be included on Frank's first-ever DVD (and Blu-ray). At the top (or possibly at the bottom) of the page (after following the link below) is a link titled "View Trailer" which will give you a sample (3 1/2 minutes long) of what's on the DVD/Blu-ray. Check it out!!
