Poor little Oreo, the "Fuzz Ball", passed from this life yesterday, Friday, February 4, 2005.
She was such a good little kitty, always willing to let the children play with her even when
they weren't very kind to her. She never tried to scratch or bite anyone. Well, a little over
a week ago, Oreo started having trouble keeping her food down. She was also really "dragging",
moving slow and not wanting to play with anyone, humans or other cats. We thought she might have a
touch of the "kitty flu" or something. Then, suddenly, she got better and back to her old self.
But that only lasted for a day or two and then she started throwing up again. This time, however,
she quit eating, only taking a drink of water now and then. We took her to the vet and the doctor
examined her. He found a very large mass inside her near the pancreas and intestines. The doctor
told us that we could open her up but that he didn't give her, or us, much hope that she would
recover from this. We decided that the humane thing to do was to let them put her to sleep so that
she wouldn't have to suffer any longer. We brought her body home and I buried her in the back yard
under an oak tree. R.I.P., Oreo.
By the way, the black stuff on her face that looks like it doesn't belong there is soot from the
fireplace. The last day or so before her death, she went into the fireplace several times and rubbed
up against the logs. I don't think she's ever done that before. These pictures were taken Thursday, the
evening before we took her to the vet the next morning.
