What can $4 do?

The latest issue of the Postal Worker lists WV as having collected far less toward COPA than our goal.  Our goal is $11,032.  Please make a contribution today.  Payroll deductions of $4.00 per pay period, with our rate of pay, won’t kill any of us.  The latest report of COPA contributions lists WV MALs as having contributed zero.  There are more than a hundred MALs.  At $4.00 per pay period, with 26 pays, that’s $104.  If each MAL contributed just $4.00 per pay period through automatic deductions, the COPA coffers would increase by more than $10,000 per year.  If each dues paying member in the state of WV alone contributed just $4.00 per pay period, with just over 1200 members, the state would raise its contributions to a whopping $125,000.00, finally putting WV on the National map of recognized states.

See what $4 can do?

PLUSS 2009

The West Virginia Postal Workers Union is an avid participant in the PLUSS program and awards two scholarships to attend PLUSS each year.  They are the Dorothy Meadows and Cecil Romine scholarships.  Selections are made annually at State Convention.  In addition, the Institute for Labor Studies and Research, who sponsors our summer school through WVU, affords one scholarship in the form of a rebate so that the recipient can attend the following year at no cost.  The recipients chosen for the WVPWU scholarships to attend PLUSS 2009 were Paul Porter of the Cecil F. Romine Area Local (Parkersburg) and Mike Bias of the KYOWVA Area local.  The first runner-up was Sophia Spencer of the Charleston WV Area Local.  To see more about PLUSS 2009, scheduled for June 21-26, 2009, please click the link at the top left of this page.   Check back often for these and other updates.

April is EAP Awareness Month

The National Joint Committee (NJC) has proclaimed April 2009 as “Employee Assistance Program Awareness Month” at USPS. District EAP Advisory Committees (DAC) around the country will be providing special outreach to our employees during April to increase everyone’s awareness of what the EAP has to offer. Here are a few points for you to remember:

EAP is Free of Charge

There is no charge to employees or family members who receive counseling and other services provided directly by the EAP. If additional, outside professional services are needed, the EAP will work with you to identify the best available treatment services covered by your insurance plan and in line with your individual finances.

EAP is Confidential

Your privacy is protected by strict federal and state confidentiality laws and regulations and by professional ethical standards for counselors. Your information may not be released to anyone without your prior written consent, except as required by law. EAP counselors are licensed professionals and are employees or independent contractors of Magellan Health Services.

EAP is Easy to Access

Make the call to 1-800-EAP-4-YOU (1-800-327-4968) (TTY: 1-877-492-7341) at anytime - day or night. You will always speak directly to a program representative. There is also an EAP website - www.EAP4YOU.com - where you can access articles, child/eldercare resources, self-assessments, and much more.

EAP is a Voluntary Program

EAP is a voluntary program and not a part of disciplinary procedures. Participation in EAP is always up to you. Your first EAP appointment can be “on-the-clock.” You should coordinate scheduling of an on-the-clock appointment in advance with your supervisor.

EAP is Not Just for Workplace Problems
