ATX Organization -Wide Picnic at Decker Lake was
Great!
Austin, TX – Many of the team members enjoyed a great time out
at Decker Lake on Saturday at the organization
wide picnic. The food was all great,
including Coach Oscar’s great BBQ Brisket.
It was great to see our 6th grade kids get a chance to play
with both the younger and older players in the organization. Fun was also had on the lake as several folks
enjoyed a boat ride and getting a chance to be pulled on the tube behind the
boat. Thanks to Roderick Burns, the
GCTYA president, for organizing and planning everything.

Pflag
Pflugerville, TX -- The ATX 12U team was recognized in the most recent
edition of the Pflugerville Pflag,
a local community newspaper that is published weekly and distributed to both
Pflugerville and Austin
residents. The periodical brought
attention to the great season that the boys conclude this past spring and
summer, finishing with a final record of 29-13 which included four tournament
championships including the MAYB/Court-Tyme Texas State Championship that was
played out in San Antonio, Texas.
The team also enjoyed four additional runner-up tournament
finishes. This was a great gesture made
on behalf of the coaches, players, and parents to be recognized in this
manner. Go ATX!

ATX 6th Capture MAYB/Court-Tyme Texas State
Championship at AT&T
Center
San Antonio, TX — The ATX 6th completed their successful
Spring/Summer ’07 season by claiming the MAYB/Court-Tyme Texas state
championship that was held in San
Antonio, Texas over
the past weekend. This tournament was comprised of a total of 16 teams
from south, west, and central Texas.
ATX flexed their muscle early, posting a 2-1 record in pool play, with
strong wins over the West Texas Shooting Stars and Katy Stallions by the scores
of 51-25 and 31-18 respectively. The team’s only stumble came against the
San Antonio Wildcats in a heart-wrenching 37-36 loss. A 30-11 victory
over the Cedar Park Tigers vaulted ATX into the state championship game and a
rematch against the Wildcats, a game which would be played out in the AT&T
center, the home court of the NBA World Champion Spurs. Bradley Piper led
ATX offensively in the first half with 5 points but ATX still found themselves
down by 13 early in the first half. ATX
would pull together and persevere. The inside presence of ATX proved too
much for the resilient San Antonio squad as Kofi Asante would go on to play his
best game of the entire season, scoring
a game-high 21 points and 16 points coming in the 2nd half. It was an overall dominating performance for
Kofi. ATX would finally secure the lead for the first time with 2 ½
minutes remaining and would seal the
victory with strong defensive play and crucial free throw shooting down the stretch
by Jay Byrd and Josh King. It
was a great team effort and accomplishment for the entire weekend. Ryan
Lamb had a game-high 7 points against Cedar Park
and provided key minutes off the bench to help overcome an injury to
defensive-specialist Jalen Campbell mid-way thru the tournament. Andrew Hagen
made a couple of big “And 1” buckets to really help swing momentum. The
team continued to enjoy a balance offensive attack for most of the weekend,
with four different high-scorers in five games (Gonzales, Lamb, King, and Asante). The team also afforded themselves a little
time for some “R&R” as they toured the Alamo City River Walk in between
games. Congratulations to the coaches, players, and parents for a great
season-ending tournament and winning the state championship!

ATX Class of 2013 Compete in Challenging Denton
Tournament, going 3-2 and Winning the “B” Bracket Championship
Denton, TX — The ATX 6th grade team ventured out on
their longest road-trip ever and headed four hours north to compete in the MAYB
Denton Summer Shoot-out. This was a
competitive field of 12 teams, with teams from Dallas,
Plano, Mansfield,
Liberty Hill, and an additional five teams from the state of Oklahoma.
ATX unfortunately found themselves in one of the tougher POOLS and went
1-2 in pool play with initial losses to TX Panthers and the OK Starzz. ATX claimed a victory over SW
OK TNT team which gave them
a top seed and a first-round BYE in the “B” bracket which consisted of six teams. Semi-final action saw ATX beating their good
and familiar friends CTX Warriors 33-24 which set up a rematch with SW OK TNT
who also battled thru bracket play to reach the championship game. ATX utilized their bench and full-court
pressure throughout the game to wear down their opponent with ATX ultimately
posting a 50-43 win and claiming the “B” bracket championship. As is usual, ATX enjoyed a relative balance
scoring attack with all players on the team scoring during the weekend. Aaron McDaniel enjoyed a good 3-point
shooting weekend, including some big 3’s in the championship game and a
team-high of 12 points. Bradley Piper
had a strong championship game performance as well, including 9 point
performance and a good rebounding
game. Josh
King went 16-19 from the charity stripe throughout the
weekend and finished with 9 pts/game average for the weekend. Kofi Asante continues to be a dominant,
defensive force inside to be reckoned with despite having to play much of the
weekend in foul difficulty. Jay Byrd,
Andrew Hagen, and Justin Moss each played critical minutes on the low
blocks. Jalen Campell and Ryan Lamb
helped spark the come-from-behind victory against the CTX Warriors with their
strong, pressure defense that led to some easy fast-break buckets. And as always, Isaac Gonzales runs the
well-oiled, offensive machine from the point.
All-in-all it was a good, challenging tournament for the kids. The boys even managed to find time for a
little “R &R” in-between games! ATX
concludes their successful season in two weeks as they travel to San Antonio for the MAYB State
championship.

ATX 6th Honor Eight Team Members who
Excel both ON and OFF the Court
Pflugerville, TX —
The ATX 6th grade team recognized several of their teammates that
choose to work just as hard “off the court” as they do on the hardwood. Several team members were honored during
their Tuesday night practice session for completing their 6th grade
year and having achieved ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE by landing on
the A/B Honor Roll or higher. Of the
eleven team members, four players maintained a “straight A” grade point average
while another four players maintained an “A/B” grade point average. Congrats goes out to Andrew Hagen, Josh King, Isaak Gonzales, and Kofi Asante for
finishing their 6th grade school year with straight A’s. Hats off also to Jalen Campbell, Justin
Moss, Bradley Piper, and Jay Byrd for achieving the A/B honor. This is an outstanding achievement for the
team as a whole and reinforces the commitment that these boys and parents are
making to be successful in the classroom.
Way to go ATX!

ATX 6th Loose Focus and Fail to
Advance to Championship
Austin, TX—The ATX 6th grade team had competed
well in all of their 6 tournaments thus far this season, advancing to the
championship game in each and every case.
This weekend, however, saw them loose their focus and take some teams
for granted. ATX goes 2-3 and fails to
place over the weekend. ATX went 1-1 in
pool play with an easy win over the Cedar Park Tarheels followed by a loss to
the talented and well-coached GATA IV squad from San Antonio, the ultimate tournament
champion. ATX played GATA close the
first half but went on to loose by 20 as GATA went on an 11-0 run to start the
2nd half. The expectation by
all was that ATX would get a 2nd chance at the GATA club later in
the bracket play but that “anticipation” cost them mightily. ATX found themselves looking too far in advance
toward their GATA rematch, and fell victim of taking the TX Energy for granted,
a team that they have defeated easily several times before in the past. The extremely disappointing loss to TX Energy
appeared to carry over into their next game which saw ATX fall to the SA Rebels, a quick and resilient
team that ATX had also easily defeated prior.
ATX 6th would like to say a big
“THANK YOU” to all the teams that participated this weekend in the ATX hosted
event with a special thanks to both GATA IV and SA Rebels who made the trip up
from San Antonio. Next up for the ATX is their 2nd
road-trip of the season which places them at Denton, Texas
in mid July.

ATX Class of 2013 finish 3-1 in TX Basketball,
Inc. “Father’s Day Rumble” and capture 2nd Place
Austin, TX—The ATX 6th grade team competed well this
weekend at Pearce Jr. High in the “Father’s Day Rumble” event hosted by TX
Basketball, Inc. The team went 3-0 early
on which catapulted them into the championship game. ATX achieved initial wins over the Austin
Wildcats, Pflugerville Titans, and Austin Blasters and then went on to face the
talented San Antonio Mustangs in the championship game. ATX unfortunately dug their self a hole
early, allowing the Mustangs to gain a lead of 22 points early into the 2nd
half. But ATX fought back, being led by Isaak
Gonzales, who spear-headed the team on a 26-8 run to pull within 4 late into
the 2nd half. The Mustangs,
however, managed to make some clutch shots and free throws down the stretch,
including a 4-point play, and hung on to win 66-60. It was an exciting comeback to watch that
just fell a little short. The team
scored an average of 65 points/game for the weekend and gave up only 45/points
game. Offensively the team was lead by
Aaron McDaniel, Kofi Asante, and Josh King
who each averaged double-figures for the weekend. The remaining team members also got into the
offensive action with several players scoring at least 6 points in a game
during the weekend: Isaak Gonzales, Bradley
Piper, Ryan Lamb, Justin Moss, Jay Byrd, and Jalen Campbell. Next up for the talented young team is the
ATX 6th hosted Summer Sizzlin Shoot-out on June
29-30th in Austin. Interested teams should contact David
King for information.

ATX 6th Continue Winning
Ways and Capture 2nd Place
in USSSA Jaguar Invitational
Buda, TX—ATX 6th continued their winning ways by
having a strong 2nd place showing in the USSSA Jaguar Invitational
this past weekend in Buda, Texas.
Assistant Coach Ron Campbell
and parent Karl Lamb coached the
team throughout the weekend as Coach King was forced to miss due to unexpected
travel. The kids responded well and
finished the weekend with a 3-2 record and a 2nd place finish,
loosing only to the SA Rohawks in early pool play and again in the championship
game. ATX wins were by an average of 15
points and came at the expense of the Alamo City Hoops, Westlake Hoops, and
Austin Blasters. ATX resorted to a tough
man-to-man defense through out most of the weekend which frustrated most of
their opponents. On the offensive end of
the court the Class of 2013 again enjoyed a balance scoring attack with
everyone on the roster scoring during the weekend. ATX saw six different players lead the team
in scoring during the tournament (McDaniel, Byrd, Moss, King, Asante/Piper) and five different players
scoring in double-figures at one point during the weekend (McDaniel, Asante,
King, Byrd, Moss). Kofi Asante led the
team in scoring for the entire weekend with an average of 8.5 points/game. Next up for the talented squad from
Pflugerville is the ATX/AAU Father’s Day Rumble in Austin.

Seguin, TX—The Class of 2013 Spring/Summer team hit the road
for the first time and headed south to Seguin, TX for the MAYB/Memorial Day
Weekend Bash. The boys enjoy their first
road-trip experience and the opportunity to hang out in the hotel with their
teammates. On the court the boys
competed well through out most of the weekend, with wins coming at the expense
of Texas Energy, CT Warriors, and San Marcos Saints. ATX competed in the 6th grade
GOLD division, loosing only to the talented Texas Team South from San Antonio
in early pool play and the championship game, giving them a 2nd
place finish out of effectively 14 teams.
Teams competing this weekend were from San Antonio,
Pflugerville, Austin, San Marcos, New Braunsfels, Hays, Poth, and
Lago Vista. ATX 6th once
again saw balance scoring throughout the weekend with five different players
averaging 5 points or more for the entire weekend (Asante, Byrd, King, McDaniel,
Moss). Congrats to the parents for
making the extra effort for their kids to compete in this fun tournament. Next up for ATX 6th is the USSSA

Class of 2013 go 4-1 in Round-Robin play and
capture the MAYB/Slamma Jamma IV Championship!
Austin, TX—The ATX 6th grade team participated in
the ATX sponsored MAYB/Slamma Jamma IV this weekend and performed very
well. They overcame an early 45-47
over-time loss to Texas Hang Time 2 but managed to win their remaining games
and secure a 1st place finish.
This tournament saw teams from Austin, Cedar Park, New Braunsfel,
Georgetown, and Killeen. Isaak Gonzales played a GREAT tournament, running the
offense from the point-guard position and continuing to play a smothering
man-to-man defense. Other team members
also played very well, stepping up their contribution since a few players were
unavailable at times during the weekend.
Five different players scored in double-figures (Byrd, Gonzales, King,
Lamb, McDaniel, and Sowell) with both Josh King
and Aaron McDaniel averaging double-figures for the entire weekend. Ryan Lamb and Isaak Gonzales had a personal
season high of 10 and 12 points respectively.
Andrew Hagen and Justin Moss did a great job on interior defense and
rebounding. A special thanks goes out to
all the parents, brothers and sisters that helped ATX 6th host this
tournament. Several mothers gave up a
small portion of their Mother’s Day weekend to help out the team selling
concessions and manning the admission door.
THANKS! Next up for the team is
the MAYB/Memorial weekend bash in San Marcos/Seguin on May 18-20.

ATX 6th Finish 4-1 but come up short
in Heartbreaking Loss in Championship game
Georgetown, TX—The ATX Class of 2013 team had a strong showing in
the MAYB/Springtime classic this past weekend in Georgetown, TX. Despite going 2-0 in pool play, ATX found
themselves being odd-man out and still having to play the 8am game on Sunday
while other pool winners received BYES.
ATX played well in both pool play and early bracket play despite being
without their leading rebounder and shot-blocker Kofi Asante for the
weekend. Other team members stepped
up, helping the team win their first
four games by an average of 14 points with wins over Georgtown Fury (Navy), RR
Hustlaz, Austin Dawgs, and TX Impact.
The Class of 2013 faced a pesty Elgin Ballers team in what proved to be
an exciting championship game. It was
the game of the day, with both teams reluctant to give in to the other and the
game coming down to the wire. Josh King’s NBA-range 3-pointer with 30 seconds left
in regulation tied the game, however, Elgin
managed to take advantage of some late-game whistles and made some key three
throws down the stretch to edge out ATX 48-46 in the 9-team tournament. ATX once again enjoyed a balance offensive
attack which saw every team member score and six different players (Byrd, King,
Moss, McDaniel, Piper, and Sowell) scoring in double figures at one time during
the weekend. ATX was lead offensively
during the tournament by sharp-shooter Josh King
who averaged 11 points/game followed by Aaaron McDaniel and Jay Byrd who both
averaged 8 points. It was an overall
GREAT team effort by all the kids – we win as a team and we loose as a team. GO ATX!

points in each contest. The team enjoyed
a balance offensive attack through out the weekend with 8 different players
scoring in double-figures at one point, including new comers to the team, Jay
Byrd, Justin Moss, and Jacob Sowell. The
team also welcomes Bradley Piper to the roster who will officially join the

with “Black History Month” Tournament at Crockett HS.
Austin, TX—The ATX 6th team concluded their
Fall/Winter season by participating in the ATX sponsored “Black History Month”
tournament that was held at Crocket HS.
The team was forced to play several games without their leading scorer,
Jamal Shabazz, yet the team still managed a 3-3 showing which included a
6-point loss to ultimate tournament champion SA Rohawks and a 1-point
heart-breaking loss to 2nd place finisher SA Next Level. The team was lead offensively throughout the
weekend by Jamal Shabazz who average 13 points/game and Aaron McDaniel and Josh King who both average 7 points/game. This tournament continued to see Kofi
Asante and Andrew Hagen continue to develop their low-post play. Isaak Gonzales and Jalen Campbell apply a
stifling pressure defense on the perimeter while Chris Sabin, Steven Guzman,
and Ryan Lamb continue to make key contributions coming off the bench.
The team plans to take a 3
week break before starting up their Spring and Summer season which will run
thru the end of March to the end of July.

ATX 6th Finishes with a 3-1 showing
at the MAYB / Slamma-Jamma II in Austin
Austin, TX—The ATX 6th enjoyed another successful
tournament, posting a 3-1 record and loosing only to tournament winner Hays Rebels
in early bracket play. The team played
the majority of the weekend at Crockett HS without two of their top low-post
players and yet the team still managed to compete well through out the weekend. Other team members had to “step up their
game” and they did exactly that. Andrew
Hagen enjoyed his best offensive production of the year down on the low
blocks. Isaak Gonzales continues to
force the up-tempo pace while running the point for the team. Steven Guzman and Ryan Lamb both saw some
considerable minutes with Steven scoring a season high 7 points. All team members scored during the
weekend. ATX was lead offensively by
sharp-shooter Josh King who averaged
12 points/game for the weekend. Next up
for the 12U team is the Basketball Jamboree on Feb 2-3 hosted by the Austin
Parks and Recreation division of Austin. Go ATX!

Austin, TX—Another
great team effort help propel the ATX 6th grade team to another
successful tournament, finishing with a strong 2nd place finish in
the TX Basketball, Inc. hosted “Pre-Christmas Warm-up” that took place at Reagan High
School.
This was an 8-team tournament which included competition from Austin, Bryan, Lake Travis,
Dripping Springs, and Cedar
Park. ATX was victorious in all their games,
loosing only to the tough Texas Ambassador squad from Byan, Texas
in pool play and the final championship game.
ATX played an aggressive, man-to-man team defense that frustrated their
competition throughout the weekend. The
team continues to enjoy a balance scoring attack with three different players
averaging in double-figures for the entire weekend: Aaron McDaniel, Jamal Shabazz, and Josh
King. Next up for this
talented squad is the Jan 13-14th tournament in Austin hosted by the ATX organization.

top honors in the process as they go 3-0 in pool and bracket play to take the

championship game over a feisty Mexia Cat team from East Texas. The 6-team tournament saw participants from San Antonio, East Texas, Hutto, and Cedar Park. ATX showed their dominance through out the
tournament, averaging a margin of victory of 16 points for the weekend. The hallmark for the team continues to be a
smothering defensive as well as a balance scoring attack. The weekend saw four different ATX players
score in double-figures: Isaak Gonzales,
Jamal Shabazz, Josh King, and Aaron
McDaniel. Next up for the 12U team is
the Texas Basketball, Inc.
“Pre-Christmas warm-up,” scheduled for December 16-17th. Thanks to all the parents who helped host

2nd place showing at the USSSA Tip-Off Classic
Austin, TX--The ATX 12U team kicked-off their new Fall/Winter
season with a strong showing at the USSSA Tip-Off Classic that was held at LBJ High
School.
The team had to play a little short-handed as well as having to play
through some injuries and yet still they managed to fight their way to the
championship game, only to loose to Texas Energy 41-37 in a closely played
game. This was a great showing for team,
especially when you consider that this was the first “real action” for the new
team in the new season. Next in store
for the 12U team is the ATX “Slamma Jamma” / MAYB tournament Dec 3rd.
