BVMRRA Standards
The standards for a straight module are really simple. Build a module frame from 1x4 lumber
(Standard frame dimensions are either 2’ by 4’ or 2’ by 6’), and put a deck on
it of ½” plywood cut to fit the top of the frame. Next, mark off a line from one end to the other, 5” from what
will become the front or viewer’s side of the module. This is the centerline for the outside mainline. Now draw a line at 7” from the front for the
inside mainline. Lay cork roadbed along
the two centerlines. You may either glue,
nail, or staple the cork in place.
Stapling is easiest because if you have to remove the cork, it comes up
easiest. Measure 4 ½” from each end of
the module and make a mark at that point on the track centerlines. This is where you start laying track. The space is so that a 9” piece of track can
be fitted between two modules. Lay your
track along the centerlines between the two marks, and you’ve basically built a
module!
