I. ACADEMIC DEGREES AND EDUCATION

Current          Completed a 20-week teleconference titled ADD in 2005. The course is taught by Drs. John Ratey (Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School) and Ned Hallowell (former Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and current founder of The Hallowell Center for Cognitive and Emotional Health in Sudbury, MA). Course completers will be considered “experts” in attention-deficit disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

1991                Doctor of Philosophy, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS; Special Education Majors: Learning Disabilities/Behavior Disorders; Minors: Counseling Psychology and Families with Disabilities.

1982                Master of Arts, West Virginia University College of Graduate Studies, Institute, WV; Special Education.

1974                Bachelor of Arts, Asbury College, Wilmore, KY; Elementary Education.

 

II.         PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Current          Associate Professor: University of Charleston, Charleston, WV; teach undergraduate special and general education classes; developed a major in Universal Design for Learning.

1991-2002      Associate Professor: University of South Alabama, Mobile, AL; teach graduate and undergraduate special education classes, supervise practicum students, student teachers, and graduate interns; graduate advisor.

1990                Research Consultant: Beach Center on Families with Disabilities, Lawrence, KS; developed an annotated bibliography and an intervention for family problem solving.

1989                Research Consultant:  Kaye Consulting Services, Overland Park, Kansas; conducted business‑oriented survey research.

1988                Relief Child‑Care Worker:  Davis Child Care Shelter, South Charleston, WV; supervised abused/neglected/ abandoned children and adolescents.

1984-88           Instructor:  Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC; taught graduate and undergraduate classes including Introduction to Education, Principles and History of Education, Practicum in Special Education, Psychology of Mental Retardation, Teaching Students with Mental Retardation, Characteristics of Students with Learning Disabilities, Teaching Students with Learning Disabilities; served as a student teacher supervisor; trained public and private school teachers to conduct Assessments of Performance in Teaching; helped develop a combined undergraduate elementary/special education dual major.

1975-84           Teacher:  Cross Lanes Christian School, Cross Lanes, WV; taught third, fourth, and sixth grades, junior high English, high school computer science, high school psychology, developed remediation programs for elementary and secondary students.

1974-75           Teacher:  Rochester Hills Christian School, Rochester, MI; taught fifth grade.
