This picture was taken at my retirement ceremony May 3, 1997. As a final farewell, my shipmates "Piped me over the side".
Piping is a distinct naval courtesy. During the piping ceremony, one of the oldest pieces of nauticle equipment is used , a "Boatswains Pipe".
