Earth-1

Throughout the Silver and Bronze Ages of Comics (roughly the mid-1950s through the mid-1980s), Earth-1 was where DC Comics' active characters and their stories took place. It was introduced in Flash #123, when Barry (the Flash) Allen first broke through the vibrational barrier between Earth-1 and Earth-2 to meet the Earth-2 Jay (the Flash) Garrick.

In the Earth-1 Universe, Superman's (Kal-El's) Kryptonian parents were Jor-El and Lara and his foster parents were Jonathan and Martha Kent. The Earth-1 Superman began his crime-fighting career as Superboy. Young Superboy later encountered his childhood pet, Krypto the Superdog, who's spaceship crashed on Earth-1. Superman was a founding member of the Justice League of America and maintained a Fortress of Solitude in the Artic. Superman was joined in his battle against evil by his cousin, Supergirl (Kara Zor-El). During a battle with Brainiac, an android from the planet Colu, Superman rescued the Bottle City of Kandor, once the capitol city of Krypton, and the Kryptonians living in it. Clark (Superman) Kent worked at the Daily Planet along side Editor Perry White and reporters Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. Later, Kent became the anchorman at WGBS News.

The Batman of Earth-1 was a founding member of both the Justice League of America and the Outsiders. Batman tracked down his parents' killer and the man who sent the killer to kill them. Batman's enemies include Ra's Al Ghul, the Penguin, the Joker, Killer Croc, and Poison Ivy among others. Batman later saw his ward Dick Grayson move out from under his shadow when Grayson retired his Robin identify and became Nightwing.

The Flash of Earth-1 was Barry Allen, a habitually late police scientist, who received his powers after being doused by chemicals struck by a lightning bolt. Later, he saw the freak accident repeated when his fiancee's nephew was doused by lightning charged chemicals turning him into Kid Flash.

Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) and Wonder Girl (Donna Troy) left Paradise Island, home of the Amazons, to help bring peace to Man's World. As Diana Prince, she served in the U.S.A.F. alongside Colonel Steve Trevor. After losing then regaining her powers, Wonder Woman underwent a series of tests to prove her worthiness to resume her mission in "Man's World."

Hal Jordan was found to be totally fearless and honorable by the power ring of a dying Abin Sur. Jordan became Earth-1's Green Lantern and, in time, became the most honored member of the Green Lantern Corps.

Discovering that a piece of a white dwarf star held the secret to miniturization, Ray Palmer, became the Atom.

Other heroes unique to Earth-1 include J'onn J'onzz (the Martian Manhunter), Metamorpho, Black Lightning, and Firestorm. Earth-1 was home to the Justice League of America, the Teen Titans, the Outsiders, and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

Earth-1 was one of the five remaining Earths that were merged to form Earth-Sigma of the Post-COIE DC Universe.
