When Charlton Comics went out of business, DC Comics purchased the characters that company once published. These include:

Captain Atom (USAF Captain Nathaniel Adam)

The Question (Vic Sage)

The Blue Beetle (Dan Garrett and his successor, Ted Kord)

Peacemaker (Christopher Smith)

Judomaster (Hadley "Rip" Jaggar)

Nightshade (Eve Eden)

Earth-4 was introduced during the Crisis on Infinite Earths to introduce the Charlton Characters into DC Comics. The Charlton adventures of these characters were said to have occurred on Earth-4. Earth-4 was one of the five remaining Earths that were merged to form Earth-Sigma of the Post-COIE DC Universe.
