Many Earths in the Multiverse experienced a version of World War II in which Nazi Germany, Italy, and Japan formed the Axis Powers and attacked Europe and the countries of the Pacific. Earth-2 was home to the Justice Society of America which during WWII was known as the All-Star Squadron. Uncle Sam of the All-Star Squadron discovered that on Earth-X, the Nazis and their allies were winning the war and America was under siege. Gathering a team of fellow All-Stars, Uncle Sam and his team went to Earth-X to battle the Nazis. Accompanying Uncle Sam were the Black Condor, the Phantom Lady, the Human Bomb, Plastic Man, the Blackhawks, Doll Man, the Ray, and a few others. Over the following decades, they fought as the Freedom Fighters against Nazi occupation and later Nazi mind control. Some Freedom Fighters fell (the Blackhawks and Plastic Man) over the years. The arrival of a team of Justice Leaguers and Justice Society members aided in bringing down the Nazi regime. With freedom restored to the people of Earth-X, the Freedom Fighters came to Earth-1 and became involved in a plot that made them appear to be villains and not heroes.
