 Christopher Preston b.3-31-1796 d.11-2-1872, son of Stephen Preston and Elizabeth Pullen, married Martha Mitchell Claytor b.3-1804 d.6-1-1875, dau. of Samuel Claytor and Martha Mitchell. They had 8 children all born in Bedford Co., Virginia as follows:

  1. Samuel Stephen Preston b.9-20-1825 d.10-31-1866 married Nannie E. McCraw of Louisville, KY on Sept. 25, 1862. He died in Lynchburg, Va. They had three children:
    • Robert Lee Preston b.8-17-1863 in Toronto, Canada. Married Leonora Johnston on 12-19-1886/8. A graduate of Univ. of Virginia, Berlin and Leipsio, and Principle of a University in Wash, D.C.. He and Leonora had 4 children:
      • Robert Lee Preston Jr. died young.
      • Henry Johnston Preston died young.
      • Leonora Preston b.9-10-1896 at Lynchburg, VA.
      • Elliot Preston b.1-1-1900 in Washington, D. C.
    • Christopher Hill Preston b.3-20-1865 in New York City, died on 8-20-1865.
    • Samuel Pleasant Preston b.7-6-1866 in Bedford Co., VA.
  2. James Mitchell Preston b.5-6-1828 d.5-4-1841.
  3. William Bowker Preston b.11-24-1830 d.8-2-1908 married first 2-24-1858 Harriet Ann Thatcher b.2-11-1839 d. xxxx and second Bertha Anderson b.7-5-1849 d.10-4-1889. William Bowker Preston went to Calif. during the gold rush, settled on a farm in Sacramento area. His nearest neighbors, the Thatchers, were Mormons. William was baptized in that faith in 1857. In 1859 he was created Bishop. In 1862 he was chosen to represent Cache County in the lower house of the Utah Legislature. He was mayor of Logan City, chairman of executive committee of Brigham Young College. Worked in construction of Union Pacific Railroad and Utah Northern Railroad. He directed the publication of a book on Preston Genealogy, from which this information is being taken. Nine dhildren by Harriet Thatcher were as follows:
    1. Alfred Preston b.5-27-1862 d.5-27-1862 in Logan Cache County, Utah.
    2. Alley Preston b.3-2-1863 at Logan Cache Co., Utah. Married 12-29-1881 Lyman R. Martineau, son of James H.Martineau and Susan Julia Sherman. Lyman was born 4-29-1859 at Parowan, Iron County, Utah. They had 8 children:
    3. William Bowker Preston Jr. b.8-25-1864 d.8-13-1907 married on 4-30-1885 Katharine D. Pyper. She was born 1-10-1863 and was the daughter of Alexander C. Pyper and Christiana Dollinger. They had 5 children: (Corrected name from Dillinger to Dollinger and Katherine to Katharine per info from Jillian.)
    4. May Preston b.5-30-1869 married on 1-17-1895 Oscar Wood Moyle, an attorney and member of the school board at Salt Lake City. Oscar was born 1-20-1868. They had issue:
      • Harriet Preston Moyle b.11-28-1895.
      • Elizabeth May Moyle b.6-9-1897.
      • Alley Preston b.11-14-1899.

      By his second wife, Bertha Anderson b.7-5-1849 d.10-4-1889, William Bowker Preston had 5 children:

    5. Lee Preston b.5-16-1873 married on 3-13-1895 Amy D. Davidson b.10-3-1873. They had 2 children:
      • Bertha D. Preston b.7-21-1896.
      • Lee Warren Preston b.9-7-1898.
    6. Stephen Preston b.3-28-1876, died April 1878.
    7. Nephi Preston b.6-14-1879, died in infancy.
    8. Samuel A. Preston b.10-11-1881.
    9. Mary A. Preston b.3-7-1885.
  4. Martha Elizabeth Preston b.11-16-1833 d.12-30-1909. Born in Roanoke, VA. and moved to Ridgeway, Colorado, and died in Ogden, Weber, UT. She is buried in Logan, Cache, UT. She married on 1-27-1853 Robert Shepard Farmer and had 3 children: (Robert was a tailor for Gen. Robert E. Lee)
    • Eleanor Elizabeth Farmer b.7-15-1855 d.12-13-1918 married on 2-14-1881 Levi Lloyd Holdren b.10-4-1852 d.5-20-1930. (Levi was the son of John David Holdren and Martha Lloyd.)Eleanor and Levi had Elizabeth Mae "Bess" Holdren b.1-12-1894 d.5-20-1955 m. 12-22-1909 William Painter.
    • James Robert Farmer also married.
    • Thomas Pleasant Farmer married Mary Crookston.
  5. Margaret Frances Preston b.8-6-1834/35 d. xxxx married on 4-6-1864 Mr. Markham, and resided in Stewartsville, Va. She had 6 children:
    • Mallon Markham
    • Samuel P. Markham b.5-4-1868.
    • Elizabeth L. Markham b.5-21-1876 married and moved to Vinton, Va.
    • Christopher S. Markham b.2-6-1872 married and moved to Pennsylvania, had one son, William Markham.
    • Thomas Pleasant Markham b.4-13-1874.
    • Edgar Herbert Markham b.9-27-1877,
  6. John Christopher Preston b.4-7-1838 d. xxxx married 3-24-1870 Matilda Carr. They had one son:
  7. Alfred Norman Preston b.2-27-1841 was killed in action in the Civil War 9-6-1862 fighting for the Confederacy.
  8. Annis Adeline Preston b.5-20-1844 d.9-26-1905 married on 3-18-1880 James Chantrill. She also became a Mormon and resided in Newton, Cache Co., Utah. She had three children.
