1. Corrected some original statements on the Tinsley page about the Yankees sending up a balloon from the Tinsleys homestead during siege of Richmond. Actually, the balloon was sent up from the Gaines homestead in called Powhite. The author of the story was Fanny Gaines, Mrs. Seaton Grantland Tinsley.
2. Added a picture of the "Intrepid", the yankee balloon. Link is located on Harriet Bryan Tinsley page.

I didnt realize that I have not listed Prestons from New England or England, separate lists for each of these will be coming soon. Also on the agenda is some information on Prestons in Scotland...all I have however is a phamplet handed out at Craigmillar Castle near Edinburgh.

1. Modified most of the Tinsley pages, changed format, added a link to the Main Tinsley page.
2. Moved Thomas Tinsley IV to a separate page instead of sharing one with Thomas Tinsley III.

4. I have now posted all of the information I have on Tinsleys except some unrelated notes. Now to review data from other web sites and determine what to steal. As I have noted, the Downing site has some significant differences in the Tinsley ancestory. They are saying my ggggg and gggggg grandfathers are not what I show them as. It is always best to have one source of information, that way there are no conflicts, like a dictator... Oh well, if anyone else has info on these Tinsleys, especially the Thomases and Johns born around 1705 or earlier, would sure like to know what you have.
5. Minor changes to pages for Matthew Rhea 1794-1870 and Matthew Robert Rhea 1846-1902.

1. Corrected the grandmother of Susanna Smith from Sarah DRAKE to Sarah PARKE on the Col. William Preston page. It was shown correctly on the Susanna Smith Chart but not in the text. (thanks to Carolyn McDaniel).
2. Didn't change the dates on the Col. Wm. Preston page (Smithfields) but added a paragraph showing different birth dates for many of those listed. Carolyn McDaniel got her info from a Preston Family bible in Library of Virginia. My source was also familiar with the bible so I am reluctant to make the changes. Taking a vote...please comment.
3. Added a note on William Preston page, New Haven Conn. line. Noted that ADAM PRESTON did not show on my original source, "Preston Genealogy" by Wm. Bowker Preston pub. 1900. ADAM is shown on web pages by both LAWSON and FORTE. I have not researched this myself so I guess you could consider this a disclaimer.
4. QUESTION: Does anyone have trouble reading my Smithfield Preston pages ??? Wondering if the background should be changed.

Source of data for all of these New England pages is William Bowker Preston's "Preston Genealogy" pub. 1900. I do intend to look elsewhere on the internet for additional or more accurate data and would appreciate all the help I can get. Since these are not even close to my line I do not intend to do extensive research, but I hope that someone can benefit from this data.

4. New page on Askham Bryan Hall family in Great Britain. I cannot vouch for any of the information on any of the Prestons of England. Have conflicting dates in many cases and difficult to interpret. Would appreciate any help I can get in verifying this data.

• Sarah Ellen PRESTON page, added 3 more children but no data on them, probably died young. Added more background information on Sarah Ellen PRESTON and Col. David BAILEY.
• Robert James PRESTON, added dates and some background information.
2. Matthew RHEA born 1794 or 1796...added commentary on this. Most Rhea historians, including Robert E. Rhea and Ed Foley, say he was born in 1796 and this is probably correct, however the family bible says he died in 1870 at the age of 76...seems like they should have known how old he was ! Anyway, I have his dates in probably 7 or 8 places on these pages and don't really want to change all of them so I made a note on his main page.
3. Marilyn Baird RHEA was married to Van Cheeseman on 9-27-1997 so this was noted on the Matthew Robert Rhea page.
4. Added some humor from the Scotch Irish Roots Web group, YOU KNOW YOURE A GENEALOGY ADDICT WHEN ! (Linked from my Intro page)

1. Added page on William Preston, son of George Preston, who married Anna Saunders and had a son Adam Preston 1564-1593 whose son William Preston started the New Haven, Conn. Prestons. Much more to be added as I get time, but please, anyone with different data please let me know. Sources for this page are "Preston Genealogy" by William Bowker Preston, several web sites mentioned on the page and Munson Hinman.
2. On the page for Margaret Rhea Preston added new data under Ellen Sheffey White who married Dr. Edward Campbell. Added several generations of Campbells. Again, anyone who disagrees, let me know. The new data on Ellen Sheffey White was provided by Robert E. Rhea.

1. Added more names to the List of Individuals, mostly in the Smithfield Preston group, 72 Prestons. Total names now almost 1000 and hardly scratched he surface.
2. Re wrote a lot of the Preston History (Walnut Grove but a lot of it applies to all branches.)
3. Found some duplications. Alfred G. Preston's 11 children were covered under a page for his father, William Alfred Preston (Walnut Grove) and also under Smithfield John Preston, where Elizabeth Radford, dau. of Susan Preston and William Radford, married William Alfred Preston. On intermarriages I always call it either WG or Smithfield depending upon the husband, therefore I deleted the data on the children from the John Preston page.
4. Another duplication where Susan Preston married Gov. James McDowell. Family was covered under the page on Col. William Preston and also on the Gen. Francis Smith Preston page. It was deleted from the Col. William page.
5. These deletions may cause a problem with some Surname Links. If anyone has any problem with any link be sure to let me know.

1. Made some changes to McElwaine page, added Rhea, Preston, Breden and Dysart to header, deleted data on William Rhea married Elizabeth Breden because this is covered in greater detail on the William Rhea page. Also added a couple of dates.
2. Added some dates to William Rhea page, mostly to John Preston Rhea paragraph. Still have a problem with dates for Ellen Catherine Rhea to be cleared up.
3. Have been told that 98% of the books and data available shows Edmondson to be the latest name for this family. I will eventually change all Edmonson to Edmondson.

5. Added about 42 more Walnut Grove Prestons(213) ready to start Smithfield.

1. New page, Samuel Preston 1775-1857. MPGray calls him a cousin of the Walnut Grove Prestons but the link is unknown. Parents stated as Thomas and Nancy. I know from first hand observation that his tombstone is with the other Prestons in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Also, the tombstone of his second wife, Rebecca Snodgrass, bears the inscription, "Rebecca Snodgrass Preston, wife of Samuel Preston of Walnut Grove". If anyone knows the connection please let me know.
