Christopher Preston b. ca. 1570 d.4-12-1639 a merchant of Leeds (of the family of Preston of Holker, Lancashire) married Annie Ayloffe, daughter of William Ayloffe. They had one son, John Preston who died 7-9-1655. John had two sons: (Source: Preston Genealogy by William Bowker Preston, pub. 1900.)

1. John Preston, merchant of Leeds, Mayor 1715, married Frances Wade, daughter of Benjamin Wade of Newgrange, near Leeds. They had two children:
• Wade Preston of Leacroft who died without issue.
• Anne Preston married Mr. Selby of Cornwall.
2. William Preston b.4-2-1691 d.1771, merchant of Leeds, purchased Flashby. He married first Olivia Smithson, daughter of Richard Smithson, M.D. of Stanwick, Yorkshire. They had two children:
1. John Preston, Esq., of Flashby b.xxxx d.8-7-1757 married first Elizabeth Pawson, daughter of Henry Pawson Esq., of Allerton, Gledhow. They had one child who died young. John married second Olivia Wilberfoss, daughter of John Wilberfoss Esq., of Gainsborough and his wife Alice Pawson Wilberfoss. John and Olivia had 3 children:
• Oliva ? Preston who married Gregory Williams Esq., of Remostone Notts. They had a child Gregory Gregory Esq., of Harlaxton.
• Sarah Preston bap. 2-1-1737/8.
• Rev. John Preston b.1755 d.1821 of Flashby Hall, Rector of Linton, Yorkshire, married Sarah Coper daughter of John Coper Esq., of Leytonstone, Essex, and his wife Dorothy Wilberfoss. They had 8 children:
1. Cooper Preston b.8-20-1786 d.4-12-1860 of Flashby Hall, J.P., married on 1-7-1811 Mary Jean Taylor, daughter of Col. Cathcart Taylor, Queens Bay, uncle of Taylor Cathcart of Pitcairly, Scotland. Cooper and Mary Jean had 5 children:
• William Thompson Preston of Flashby Hall, b.9-6-1812 d.11-17-1877, unmarried.
• Philip Charles Damer Preston b.10-6-1814 d.4-14-1835, midshipman in Royal Navy, died unmarried.
• John Northcliff Preston of Flashby Hall.
• Caroline Louise Preston.
• Emily Jane Preston married on 6-21-1843 James Wheeler Unwin Esq., eldest son of Rev. Edward Unwin of Parkfield, Derby and Wooton Park, Staffordshire. They had a daughter Mary Unwin.
2. Elizabeth Preston married Rev. E. Unwin, of Wooton Park, Staffordshire.
3. Harriet Preston died unmarried 10-19-1832.
4. Mary Preston married Rev. John Bradney of Leigh House, Wiltshire.
5. Caroline Preston married Rev. John Bradney of Sidmouth Devon and died without isssue in 1851.
6. Sarah Preston married Gen. William Chanberlayne of Oxford House, Essex.
7. Olivia Preston died without issue 1859.
8. William Preston (Wilberfoss) died 1838.
2. Elizabeth Preston married William Topham merchant of Lisbon and died without issue.

William Preston married secondly on 10-24-1721, Ellen Farrer b.xxxx d.1771, daughter of Rev. Jeremiah Farrer of Nunburnholme, Yorkshire, Vicar of Leeds. William and Ellen had 5 sons and 3 daughters. The fourth son was:

4. Henry Preston Esq., b.2-15-1737 d.12-28-1808 married Ann Fourness, daughter of Francis Fourness of Lane Ends, Yorkshire. Henry and Ann had one son:
• Henry Preston Esq.,b.xxxx d.8-12-1859 who succeeded his uncle, Thomas Preston, Esq., of Moreby. He married in 1814 Maria Ann Compton, eldest daughter of Joshua Compton Esq., of Esholt Hall, Yorkshire. They had 2 children:
• Thomas Henry Preston b.1817 d.xxxx of Moreby Hall, Yorkshire, J.P. and d.L. for the East and J.P. for the West Riding of Yorkshire, formerly Captain 7th Hussars, married 4-29-1847, Georgiana Louisa Genevieve Campbell, third daughter of Major General Sir Guy Campbell, Baronet, by Pamilia, his wife, daughter of Lord Edward Fitzgerald. They had 3 children:
• Henry Edward Preston J.P. Yorkshire, b.7-13-1857, married in 1886 Beatrice Thomason, 3rd daughter of D. Thomason, Archbishop of York.
• Maria Emmea Georgiana Preston married on 6-1-1871 William Ulrick O'Connor, 4th Earl of Desart. They were divorced.
• Pamelia Mary Preston.
• Anna Marie Preston married in 1839 the Baron de Langen of Parow, Pomerania, and Chamberlain to his Majesty the King of Prussia. They had a son, Frederick Charles b.6-20-1841 who was killed by a fall from his pony in 1850.

Editorial Comment: William and his second wife Ellen Farrer were married 10-24-1721. They had 5 sons. One was apparently Thomas Preston and the 4th was Henry Preston born 2-15-1737. Could one of the two other sons prior to Henry, be John Preston b.1726 of Walnut Grove, VA. ?????
